Tachometer and hour meter not working

Well, I broke into it today and the cable is broken!! Hoping thats all that is wrong with it. I didn't have to take off the alternator afterall to get to the 90 degree knuckle where the cable ties into the engine; it was a tight fit but my hands are kind of small so it worked out. Will post again when I get the new cable installed.

The new cable fixed it!!! On a side note, it worked great for about a half hour, then started burying the needle if I went over 1500 rpms as well as making a high-pitched humming sound. So I put some more grease on the end of the cable that goes into the housing and then the needle started bouncing. I put a little more grease, let it run and now it works like new!

Thanks for reporting the fix! Not everyone does. BTW, I have a 4100 so your report may help me out someday.

When you are fortunate and get a reply from jd110 you should heed his advice. I have been around here for a few years and both Tx Jim and jd110 are usually spot on. I would like to know what these two guys' have forgot.

I can't speak for jd110 other than I know he knows JD's but for me at my age of 67 I've forgotten a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially considering I left a JD dealership to custom bale hay in '87.
