Tachometer problem on a Jinma 284

All the other gagues in the cluster work that includes the fuel and ampmeter but the center portion is a combination tach and hour meter. I've been able to take the cluster apart so the picture I am posting is just the tach.

Although the tachometer is not as critical as things like temperature and oil pressure gages are but it is a handy bit of information when running things like a backhoe. Since the tach is an integral part of the instrument cluster I am trying to consider other options to get it running. I believe earlier models of Jinma tractors had individual gages instead of the cluster. I'd like to replace the cluster with individual gages and wondered if anyone has any experience with this. The question is if the sending units on the engine are compatible with the older gages. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I followed the below directions, and my hugely annoying intermittent tach now operates correctly. Thanks

The first step is to make sure that the sensor is close enough to the flywheel, it should be about 1mm. The way to do this is: (with the engine off!) loosen the locknut, screw the sensor in until it touches, and then back it out 3/4 of a turn and tighten the locknut.
