I removed the dash from my l3010 to check the bulb on the engine oil pressure light. I had to remove the tachometer cable from the back for easy access. When I installed the cable back on the back of the dash, it now reads around 2000 rpm at idle and is bouncy; it was reading less than 1000 before removal. I have removed and install several times and still have same problem. Any suggestions
Thanks

I would bet the cable is not properly seated either at the tach or at the drive head on the engine.

Thanks kuboman for the reply, beginning to think I was the only one to ever have this problem. I will try that; is it difficult to seat it at the drive head on the engine?
Thanks,

I recently had a problem with a cable-drive speedometer (Triumph M'Cycle) where it indicated erratically or sometimes not at all, because when I screwed the outer cable ring nut on all the way snug, the inner cable was actually too far into the speedo drive and jammed things up. So you might also try backing the ring nut off a few turns to see if that makes a difference. On my speedo, I stuffed an appropriately sized o-ring down into the ring nut so that it couldn't thread on quite as far.
