I've got a takeuchi tb 045 that will not start below 50 degrees, but above that, it starts and runs beautifully, and seems to have plenty of power. The engine is a yanmar 3 cylinder that looks nearly identical to my John Deere, except tha jd has glow plugsa dn the takeuchi has a grid type heater between the intake manifold and the breather hose. I have been tempted to use starting fluid, but most of my friends say not to, as the engine will become hooked on it. The engine "was rebuilt by the dealer" about 600-800 hrs ago, accordint to the man I bought it from.
Any ideas?

I have had many pieces of equipment with a device to auto shoot either from a button in the cab, keep in mind alittle shot will do ya!! However none of these were equiped with any type of heater,,,, a heater and either are BAD, if the heater cycles boom it ignites the either in the manifold,,,,,, I would check out the heater, if the manufacturer put it on, probably they would prefer that method to start a cold engine over either for good reasons,,, If all else fails find a 12v hairdryer plug it into a vehicle power port and preheat with that. Oh I think if ya check with the Yanmar tractor guys they will tell you either will eventually destroy the engine.

As mentioned, a air heater grid plus ignitable material may make for loud noises that could be expensive.
