Talked out of a CK20 by dealer

I have been looking at tractors for about two months now and have gone from looking at subcompacts to compacts and now I think back to subcompacts. I went to the dealer with every intention of buying a CK20 cash in hand and left with nothing. He was nice and I think knowledable? But hopefully someone in the forum can give me more insight. I told him I was looking at the machine for 3 acres to pull a couple of stumps clear brush, and move lots of material. I had been convinced that the CK20 would give me more weight to help with lifting then the GC2310 TLB that I had previously been considering. He insisted that the CK20 with a backhoe was actually too heavy and that to much power was used to move the machine and not enough power was left to work with and that it would stall out because of machine being under powered. This surprised me he then when on to say that the GC2310 TLB had a better power to weight ratio resulting in better performance. He had both on the lot and the CK20 had a ding in and he was offering it at a good price about $500 more than the GC2310TLB. Can someone please give me some insight on this comparision. Thanks

Re: Talked out of a CK20 by dealer

I looked at both before purchasing. Although I didn't get a backhoe. I found the CK much more ergonomically pleasing. Plus I didn't like how the GC hydraulics hung down really low. Maybe it was just how that tractor was setup.

The loader controls were nicer on the CK to me.

You really need to try both of them. There are quite a few CK20 TLB owners here on tbn. They are bound to speak up.

Re: Talked out of a CK20 by dealer

You should have told the dealer to prove it. Put a 54 in boxblade on both and see how they pull.. I looked at the specs on both and the ck has nearly twice the loader lift capacity 1074 to 678lbs. The 3 point lift ratings were at the ball for the gc at 1190 which needs to be reduced by like 30 percent when comparing to 24" back with the ck20s lift at 1109lbs. Probably in the 700 pound range for the gc at 24" back. Total hydrolic flow at 6.1 gpm for the gc and 7.66 gpm for the ck20. They didnt list the gc s max hydrolic output in psi but the ck20s is very strong at 2680 psi... It sounds like a dealer is trying to move a gc to me.. Id say test them both out under the same conditions... If your looking for a mowing machine then the gc is probably more agile, but for ground engaging work id bet the ck20 would be the better machine. Test them both out... Good luck

Re: Talked out of a CK20 by dealer

Ridiculous is all that I can say. Clearance is better on the CK20 and the machine is not by any means "too heavy." I have one, and I use it for a lot of backhoe work and loading. It doesn't have a problem carrying it's weight around, and besides, if you're using the backhoe, you're not using the other things, so what he says doesn't compute!

Obviously one of the other posters has it right, the man is trying to rid himself of a Massey that is probably costing him interest on a floor plan!

Go with the CK20. It has the weight to use the HP, and is not underpowered for a 21HP tractor.

I will say that if it had a 25HP engine, it would be all the better, but it's fine as is.

Re: Talked out of a CK20 by dealer

I hate to say it but I think your dealer is a moron. The CK20 TLB works just fine. I rarely have the RPMs over 2100. What kind of work does he say it cannot do because it's so heavy? The only thing I would concede with regard to weight and power is that you'll spend more time in low range than high range with the BH attached. It would be nice to have a three range HST but none of the 20 hp machines have more than 2. If you are digging with FEL you're going to be in low range anyway most of the time. If you are using the BH, well you better not be moving and the BH works just fine at 2100rpm.
The only time I have used mine at full PTO hp is when using the bush hog. The only time I've had any trouble doing that is when I had the grapple down to rip through thick 4ft high briars at the same time that I was moving forward to cut them with the Bush Hog. I saw the engine temp rising after about 15 minutes of that so I slowed down.

I would not disagree with KiotiJohn that 25hp in the CK20 frame would be sweet but that is a far cry from saying that 20 hp is insufficient.

I'd say take the CK20 at discount from the guy and get your future advice from TBN or a better dealer. If you need convincing come on over to Prudence and try mine out.
