Tar River seeder/drill

With the tar river drill. If you planted a wildlife mix in the front box and wanted to add some clover, would you have to add sand to the clover seed and put in the back seed box or maybe mix the clover seed with some fertilizer and add to the back box? I have been looking at them as well and without it having a small seed box I’m curious as to how I could do it with the tar river drill.
I am going to put down about 50 lbs of rye in the front box.....and put about 6 lbs of a mix of 3 clovers and 10 lbs of a mix of 3 brassicas ( all blended together). in the small seed box (rear box). I plan to apply this total of 66 lbs / acre to about 7 acres.

If I needed a filler to run through I would not use sand. Instead use something like kitty liter or floor dry or even lime. I have also considered using some milorganite. I will use some of this stuff to set up my machine. No sense using seed as it's too expensive.

today I lined up the front opening coulters with the double disk openers and basically adjusted and tightened all the fasteners and greased the machine, etc. Only thing left is some of the calibration with seed. After a few hours spent wrenching....I took it to a few different areas I plan to drill next week. One idea I came up with to align the slice Coulter and the double disk openers......was to use a board with a line of black tape at 7.5" to align components. Slick method. Also an impact tool was a big benefit in setting stuff up. Lots of adjusting.

I was super stoked to see it penetrate some deep thatch and heavy sod that has never been broken. Seemed to work like a champ. I do have some heavy ground...but even that ground is somewhat sandy. In clay I am uncertain how it would work?....but if conditions are right I think it would do well.

I still need to calibrate the seed dispensing rates....then I am ready to drill seed. Pretty happy with my purchase at this point. Pics follow.

I just finsihed doing 134 lbs of a mix,,,,, of 100 lbs / acre of rye....and 34 lbs of nine types of seeds / acre using this drill. I covered 8 acres so far....and will do two more acres tommorow. This Saya 505 I have has done flawless application of these seeds.

I would buy this NT Drill again in a heartbeat. I like the 5' wide model as I do allot of seeding near the timber edges. Keeping the unit behind my tractor wheels solves allot of issues with damage. Not much time lost for a small time operator.

I have penetrated some dry, hard sod...that has never seen tillage before, and broke through very handily and deposited the seeds at the same capability as broken land.

Have I mentioned that I love this drill? Best piece of equipment I have added in a long time. and Compared to any other option the price is right. I just grin when I operate this thing. Very good precision...when you get it set up right. (which is very important....and may take some technical skill and knowledge).

Results. That is what matters. I put down 134 lbs / acre of rye (100 lbs) and 34 lbs of a mix of nine other great seeds. Covered all the bases....from grains to brassica to legumes. They are all now germinating due to recent (finally) rainfalls that keep us going . Now thankfullly, over 4 inches in the past week. My 10 acres of food plots have never looked so promising as they do now. All those acres are FLOUISHING with new growth of a great variety of seeds. I could not be happier or expect more. Likely the best money I have spent on a food plot machine ever. I will attach a few pics.

Hey Foggy, I was wondering how the Tar River NT drill would work on “side-hilling”? Would the seed get pulled out correctly? Or does the land need to be flat?
