awwww shucks. Don't kill those poor little helpless creatures. They walk quietly and don't disturb a thing.

Once when I was a kid back in Texas we visited some kinfolks in Groveton. Got there late at night. When the car headlights hit the front of their house the entire wall looked like it was moving! Hundreds - perhaps thousands of tarantula had converged. I have no idea as to why, and I've never seen that again. Scary? yes. Dangerous? No.

Just don't get caught killing one in a national forest... major loss of money will be experienced.

Brin ,I have also been stung by a scorpion and I have found a cure all solution for the burning and pain ! I take a fifth of Gin and mix it with some soda water and a few crushed limes and in about 20 minutes after consuming 4-5 glasses of this majic concoction I no longer feel any pain and barely remember what I was stung by !

Grumpy ...Only one time in my whole life I got so sick from drinking I threw up...I was at a business lunch in the 1970's and everyone ordered a drink....I was in my mid twenties and I did not drink...but they ordered me a Gin martini....I took a few sips of that and off to the men's room ....I blew chunks...I would never drink Gin ...I have never had Gin again...I cannot stand the smell of Gin...I do not like to see a bottle of Gin... I would rather have the scorpion bite...but some good Merlot...now that is different...:D

Are you sure it wasn't sloe gin? That stuff is nasty. A sloe gin fizz can gag a maggot. I love gin and tonic with a twist. That used to be my favorite drink in the summertime. I never developed a taste for martinis though.

I think vermouth is about as nasty, as one can drink, but I have had plenty of it "stright up" when I was younger, and slightly more crazy.

Brin, you might just have a reaction to Gin. Rum makes me ill, if I even have half a drink that contains rum. And keeps me ill. And I have a really high toleerance to booze.

Hey, this thread is about tarantulas. :drink:

I have killed a lot more gin than tarantulas. The difference is that I only kill tarantulas on, or in, my home, whereas I am willing to kill gin wherever it is found. My taste runs to scotch, with gin as a backup or change of pace.

It has been a couple days since the last big hairy spider and we are knocking on wood. Note, I have no intention of hunting them in national forests. There are 3.7 million square miles in the USA and I am just reserving 2000 square feet for things with <4 legs.

Hey, I'm no entomologist but that spider doesn't look all that happy. Mind you, it does look as if it's ready to go on a trip out past your 2000' exclusion zone.

Now scorpions, on the other hand (yes, I found out to my surprise/shock/horror are here in Tassie) get escorted to the next-world via half a can of bug spray!

As long as they don't drop on me from the ceiling, I am not spider phobic. In fact, I find them kinda cute. We have them around here sometimes, and other years, none are seen. This year, it is the Wolf spiders that are seen almost every day.

I'd don't know, Dave. It looks to me like he is trying to read your credit card number so he can run up charges on the Web.;)
