Task Master 425A stopped running

No, there is only the spin-on fuel filter. The engine itself didn't overheat at all, just slowed down and died. I was referring to the possibility of no lube oil in the IP itself, which I was unaware needed external oil added. My other diesel engines are either diesel lubed - Westerbeke 4-91 with a CAV IP or internally lubricated with motor oil from the block - '89 F-250 with 7.3 INT. & an old MB 300D, both with Bosch type systems. On the boat the there is an in-line strainer, the racor 12µ, then the 2µ spin-on.
Oh well, live and learn...

Months later, purchased a new injection pump and will try to remove and replace that today. Unfortunately don't have an engine manual for the YD385.
Anyone know where/how to get one?

Before you try to replace that injection pump, I strongly suggest you call Tommy and get some advice on how to do it. If you follow the correct procedure, it can be fairly straightforward, but if you don't it can turn into a nightmare. If you do it wrong you lose the injector timing and it can be a bit of a chore to get it set correctly once again. A call to Tommy can help you avoid all those problems.

So why are you replacing the fuel injection pump?

The tractor was running and simply slowed down and quit. See the above thread. No overheating or other indications of mechanical failure, so I went through the fuel system. Had fuel through the lift pump and into the filter, return to tank OK, no air. No go.

The main problem for me is I didn't receive a manual for the YD385 engine when I bought the tractor off of Ebay. Didn't know that the IP has it's own internal lubrication. Must have lost oil when I did a real bonehead maneuver lifting a load too high, that swung the tractor over on it's side. Only had to move it back about 3 inches in order to move the trailer out from under the load. IDIOT!

I figured the lack of lubrication probably made for trouble in the rack or governor of the IP. Replaced the IP yesterday being extremely careful to retain the gear orientation and insert the pump's keyway in the same position. Hopefully timing will be fairly close. I will check timing using the drip/bulge at the end of line #1, once I get the fuel through the system again. Apparently there is now junk in the tank outlet from sitting, so out with the old fuel and in with new.

Curious if you checked for bugs in the fuel.

Fuel appeared to be clean a few months back when I began this project. However, it may not be so good now. Plus, I did run some recycled veggie oil two years ago with no problem then, but there may be some gummy residue in the tank now. Doubt if I'll do that again right away!

Just for the record my Taskmaster 425A has only the spin on fuel filter. No sediment bowl, line runs tank, shutoff, IP, fuel filter , IP then injectors.
