Tax Refunds being stolen

Well, not sure what the hype with the State Taxes was all about. Just e-filed my Federal and State taxes through TurboTax about 5min ago. Guess we'll just wait and see if they get kicked back. It seemed to send just fine.

There was like a one day outage but TurboTax is back up and running now.

I didn't know there was an outage but Turbo Tax said they were shutting down all State filings till further notice. Did that only last a day?

Yes they only shut down states' e-filings for a day. No shutdown of Federal e-filings so far.

My state, Kansas, has a nice online filing service. I only have to buy Turbotax federal.

It would be nice if ever state had that so the data could go directly from the taxpayer to the state without some 3rd party in the middle collecting/storing/selling/losing the data.

Right! What a great thing for a state to do to help its taxpayers. Well, I switched from Intuit's mess this year back to HR Block. Intuit just messes things up too much, not the stolen state stuff, but taking away features this year that used to be included. I've used them both since '93 for my very complicated taxes, and both have worked good. Hopefully, as I'm into true geezerhood now, my taxes will get a bit simpler.

It'd be nice if we could go to a fair tax or usage tax and get totally away from this complicated mess we've got right now.

I did the same thing. Intuit thought they could deceive their customers and nobody would notice but it blew up in their face, 2,000+ one-star reviews on Amazon!
