Taxes for tractor shed or small barn

Here there is no permitting needed for any structure on Ag. Exempt property UNLESS there is a concrete floor. Then, said building becomes a new structure & a permit is required. Which triggers an appraisal, thereby, causing a tax increase.

I have a dirt floor “Barn”, legally a stable, with several covered sheds (again without flooring) with no increase in taxes but great increase in property value.

I do believe in supporting our State Farm Bureau, that facilitates county & local tax structures that protect our farm way of life from gov’t intrusion.

It al depends on which state, province, or political subdivision you are in. They all have different rules and exemptions. Your best answer would come fro your local assessor, not from an internet forum.

I am curious to know how much taxes you would have to pay in your state (or country) to get the permission for building a small one tractor shed or barn.

After having built it, does it generate an increase of your property yearly taxes ?

Is the tax situation different if you are an official farmer ?

I live in the Old World that's why I am asking odd questions !

You need to talk with the powers that be in your jurisdiction of "somehwere". Every area has it's own rules and idiosyncrasies.

In my area you get taxed and assessed based on whether or not you are a farmer, your last name, and how long you've lived in the area. A 50 year resident is still considered the newbie.

I guess every government,state , city ,town, etc wants money from us so taxes are here to stay.

If your cousin doesn't work at the tax assessment office then you are a newbie. If your cousin married an outsider then their spouse is the newbie.

It varies greatly between county and cities in counties.

Right now farmer nearby decided to replace tarp on livestock shelter with metal triggering all kinds of requirements such as engineering, full plans, inspections, tax assessor, etc.

Metal roof is no longer considered temporary as a tarp roof.

A mile away AG is still AG...

No permitting required in my tiny town for any personal construction be it a small drive shed or a home.
No zoning or inspections except for sewage handling.
The town, as a courtesy likes to be informed of any new construction so it can be added to the grand list for tax purposes though it always eventually is found out being such a small, chatty town
It will be assessed for property tax value and taxed accordingly.

I was having some dozer work done a couple of years ago. A fellow from State EPA pulls into the yard. I greet him and asked his concerns or interest. He wanted to be sure I was not drilling an Ag irrigation well without approval. Lots of 6 & 8 inch wells in the area supplying pivot systems.

That's clear.
In my area It works in the same way but you need to know the Mayor wife's cousin.
It works even better if your great grand father used to have a drink with the Mayor's great grandfather...
