Got a nice Taylor Pasture Dream drill from CL and used it to plant sunflower/corn for Doves this weekend for the first time. It has some issues (really, it's only about 60 years old!) that I need some advice on.

1. The shut off mechanism that opens and closes the seed/fertilizer plate is worn at the pivot (probably egg shaped) and does not push the bar far enough to open and close the drop holes fully. It seems to be cast steel. Can it be machined out and sleeved to remove the 'slop'?
2. Should the seed boots be lower than the front coulters?
3. Considering replacing the mechanical shut off with a small Hydraulic cylinder to operate the seed gates. This keeps the seed/fertilizer from falling while the unit is raised while turning.
Anybody got one of these units and has to modify or repair? There are no parts available from Taylor.
Thanks
