John,

For this forum maybe a more appropriate moderator byline is, "You are what you eat, think, type, and do"

e-mail and the written word is considered to be more damaging/dangerous than speach in many ways as the speaker has little to no control over of the reaction or subsequent response, other than his or her own ability to type/write in an objective, concise manner.

...are not as easily communicated when you have to type your responses. They are best discussed face to face so the indivual parties can enjoy the body language and spoken inflections...

Hi Carl,
You're absolutely "right" about the "written" word/sentence... because when people "write"... if one comma, period, exclamation or question mark is out of place or missing... it can convey an entirely different meaning than originally meant... At least with the spoken word/sentence "in person" as you and Sim above have pointed out... the "reader" or "listener" has other clues or additional "sensory" help to avoid any miscommunications...

Using these emoticons seem to help a lot when writing on TBN:/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

...if there are members who are not playing nice, warn them once or twice, and then give them the boot. This is such a valuable resource to so many it would sure be a shame to let a few bad apples ruin it for the rest...

Hi Ron...

It's a delicate balancing act... Nobody wants anyone to get the "boot", but we also don't want a few bad apples turning the whole bushel rotten either.

On the most part 99.999% pure (like Ivory soap /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif), most members on TBN follow the guidelines as set forth... it's every now and then, someone gets "sucked" in and the situation turns sour quickly... so what do we do now...?

Do we censor each and every response, dot every "i" and cross every "t"... remember this is not only America... this is the whole world participating on this TBN through the internet... and everyone here strongly believes in free speech as it very well should be...

So the bottom line, we want more freedoms and less restrictions... and the quickest way to get there is asking every individual to exercise some self-restraint and use some better judgment in responding (or not responding!) to certain threads... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Of course, JMIII you are right again (as usual). We here at TBN are lucky to have a host and moderators who take such matters with a seriousness and a restraint from reactionism. Thanks guys.

The answer may be for the "regulars"/"members"/"good guys" to just simply refuse to engage in threads that go bad.
When we see a thread go bad, simply stop viewing that thread. Let them "fight it out" among themselves and/or let Muhammad handle it. I think that when a thread ends up being just two guys going at it they'll eventually lose interest. Just my thoughts.

I'm not so sure they will ever die on their own. I think having the moderators just delete them is the best approach.

I used to subscribe to a usenet group (rec.skiing.alpine) but quit a couple years ago because the flame wars started. The newsgroup is now totally useless...almost no discussion of skiing. The police have been involved and everything else. I check back every once in a while to see if it has stopped....it hasn't.

I say if you see a thread go in the tank just notify the moderators and let them take care of it.

I check out one message board on yahoo occassionally to check on company rumors and I am amazed at what goes on. No one is civil!! /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
