Hey Hazmat,

I wonder if the HST system is the same for the TC18 & TC24D? Sounds like you have HP that is not being used.

That's exactly what is going on. Jim did all the homework for me a couple of years ago - see http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...tic-transmission-secrets.html?highlight=nasty

I just never realized how much wasn't being used until working alongside that older Bota.

I have always wondered if the earlier Class I TC machines were better - here's why. The original specs called for tires that were 29" high. The later machines (2003 and beyond I believe) came with 31". This is all for the turfs, which is what I have. I can't remember the exact difference, I calculated it and its probably buried in Jim's thread, but that could effectively change the "gear ratios" if everything else in the drive train remained the same as I suspect it did. I'll be smaller diameter tires would provide more power to the ground.

Live and learn I guess. Bigger tractor would be fun, but I have no more room or need for another machine. Plus, it would have to have a bed on it as well and fit in the doghouse.

My mirror tells me the same thing yours tells you... I hope 'grey' is becomming the 'in look'. I used to oly see it after primering a tractor.. however I havn't done any painting since february.. so I can't use that excuse now!! My wife tells me that it will only get better.. (grin)

My neighbor's machine is a Bota, B6200 I believe. A work horse for sure. He never had a FEL on it, between the two of us working together, we get a lot done with two small tractors. Get him enough traction, I'll bet he would pull me backwards in a tractor pull. That's frustrating to me - not that his is capable, but that mine is not with approx 10 more HP at the motor.

My other point was to bust your chops that we (or at least me) are getting older all the time :)

I might be off here, but instead of comparing the HP, shouldn't you be comparing torque? Isn't the torque the actual power to the wheels?

A drawbar HP number is what would be usefull... I notice most manufacturers like to quote engine hp.. and maybee pto, if you press them.. most don't post their db'ar hp numbers..
