You have to give the folks that make that rocket adhesive JB Weld credit. That stuff really works! I have even used it to repair a sand hole in the casting of a water pump with NO problems. If you need something fixed quick you might want to put a couple of tubes in your own toolbox as I did.

I put a drop of it on a quarter and stuck it to the end of my workbench in plain sight. I relly get a kick watching everyone who visits try and pick up that quarter. You should see the smile on their face once they realize its an immovable object. They whould have better luck taking the workbench instead. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good point! I remember the whole discussion since I was in the process of buying the same tractor at that time.

George, can you raise the front off the ground slightly with the FEL and have someone rotate the front wheels while you watch the front drive shaft for any wobble? You should be able to do that with the transfer case in 2 wheel drive. With the weight off the front, it may not contact the oil pan, but at least you would be able to see if there is any play or wobble in the shaft that may have been from impact when the wheel fell off.

For the personal injury litigators out there, I'm not talking about raising the thing two feet in the air and climbing under /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Just enough off the ground to rotate the wheels and observe from the side. Or you can jack and block the whole machine and really get into it.

I hope NH does good by you on this tractor. I watch your posts with interest and keep checking my machine for any signs of trouble such as yours. Knock on wood, no problems yet. Keep us posted and good luck.

Brad

My thoughts, if it was rubbed by the driveshaft to begin with, then why unless the driveshaft has been changed will it not take the JB weld off or break something else? We are only talking 1/8" or so for thickness of clearence which this unit doesn't have obviously!

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more detail

Hello everyone, my dealer picked up the tractor yesterday and will be taking pictures and writing a report to New Holland. I am going to call New Holland Corp. and open a case number. The dealer has been really great about getting things fixed on it. In matter of fact they are always lets say “Johnny on the spot” about repairs. I think they depend on New Holland for work for their mechanics and kind of look forward to warranty repairs?
Here is a little more detail as to what happened. With the front drive shaft. There is a steel sleeve that slips over the spinning drive shaft to protect it from getting caught up in brush and probably to prevent what happened to me with the oil pan. It is held in place by a screw type tension ring with a boot at the yoke to the front axle differential. Apparently it slipped out of the grasp of the tension screw and started to move up and down the spinning drive shaft. The resulting slop caused the protective steel sleeve to contact the drain pan and cause the wear in it. There was a flat spot on this protective steel sleeve and am not sure if that was done by New Holland to give the extra spacing needed between the drive shaft and the oil pan. I can tell you this there is slop in the drive shaft and it looks like it had made contact with the oil pan plenty of times before but if the steel sleeve had been in place it would have only caused it push against the oil pan not spin a hole into it. Also there was a Zerk grease fitting that I had lubed up in the past and it was missing from the sleeve. Odd thing about the whole thing is that I was not in four wheel drive at the time of the incident so I guess just the small amount of spinning of the drive shaft can cause this kind of damage to still happen.

I am very disappointed that I have a lemon tractor since I really like my New Holland. My wife is at her end regarding the tractors problems and I can’t blame her. It is bad enough she feels it costs more than a car now with the many problems we are having with our tractor she is ready to drive it through New Holland’s front door. We are making payments to New Holland Credit for this tractor but yet we are not getting the reliable use that was promised and expected.
Many of the folks here on the forum type about a tractor being a lifetime purchase. Well I can’t see this tractor being around here longer than the warranty period. It would be very scary to have had to pay for those repairs that New Holland has had to make on my tractor. Below is a quick reference as to the problems I have had with my TC 24D in order of occurrence.

- Front differential leak from loose bolts on axle
- Handle for box blade rippers hit fender and cause it to crack (dealer opps)
- Front right wheel fell off
- Cruise control went out
- Hydo oil leak from top seal of ?
- Ruptured fuel tank
- Seat plate cracks at bolt hole
- Cruise control goes out again
- Surging idle not able to maintain constant RPM kind of fullers and sounds like it is missing.
- Seat belt housing cracked
- Drive shaft makes hole in oil drain pan

I am so sad about this, hope New Holland does the right thing.

PS: will try to get those pictures posted.

SOrry to read yuor laundry list of repairs. Sounds like yuo did get a bad one. I guess it happens in all brands.

If you sell it before the warranty is gone will you buy another NH? If so maybe you can get the NH rep to buy this one back towards another one?

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more detail

LAGEORGE. . . I honestly feel bad for you. My TC24D has become my favorite tractor and has been nothing but reliable.

HOWEVER, I have to hope that NH will come to a point that they simply replace the tractor or otherwise make good on your purchase in some other way, to your satisfaction. I had a Pontiac and it had constant problems, I swore I'd never buy another, and as a fleet buyer, I can tell you I have not even considered a Pontiac. So I can honestly feel what you are going through, and it sucks. In my case, my car in dispute with the BBB backing me in a suit against Pontiac (for a 4th major claim) when the car was totaled by someone who borrowed it. I was never so glad to get rid of a vehicle. If Pontiac would have stepped up to the plate and replaced the car I might still be driving them? I certainly wouldn't have the anti-Pontiac feeling I have, so hopefully New Holland will come through for you, because there are probably a lot of people who read this forum who are tractor shopping and who might avoid NH if they do you wrong.

I've had tractors 50+ years old and they've given me less trouble than you have had with your TC24.

Hope this helps, here is a picture of the serial plate on my tractor. Had it handy for the DMV farm plate app.

Found the cable will get the pictures posted later today. Also did anyone out there notice the editing of the posts this afternoon. It is very God like to be able to edit peoples thoughts.

We need to hear the good and the bad and if somone thinks it is a junk tractor than they should be allowed to share that with others, I know I did not mind people calling my TC 24D a junk tractor. My tractor is by most people's standards a junk tractor now with all those problems.
