TC 24D with hole in the oil pan

Are you operating the tractor on the highway with four wheel drive engaged? Most vehicles are designed to be operated off-road in four wheel drive mode. All four wheel drive trucks I have owed stated in the owners manual the hazards of operating at substained speeds on dry pavement.

Re: TC 24D with the neaver ending story.

What about simply removing the front shaft completely until a replacement tractor is located ?? I have used 2WD tractors with loaders for years until only recently going with my 4x4 models...........Not as good traction wise but at least you'll have use of your tractor without fear of further damage..........Just my .02..........Tom

TOMLESCOEQUIP, dude that is a great idea to remove the front drive shaft from my tractor. I was thinking my self that something is better than nothing. So 2wd should get me by if I am careful and stay off the slopes. But I can tell you 4wd makes all the difference in these small tractors. This would also allow me to road the tractor once again. I never use 4wd on dry pavement and know all too well the problems with 4wd in trucks, so I would not want those problems with my tractor.
I will call the service manger and ask him what he thinks; he will be surprised to hear the bushing was not protecting the oil pan. Maybe he can send out one of his crack mechanics to remove the front drive shaft. I know I should not do that myself.

George

PS: It’s raining, to wet to work so I am on TBN and Internet looking for my next great project.

George.......If I would have had the trouble you've had with one of my new hollands, I think I would have taken my sawzall to your front shaft long ago and sent it freight collect to your NH rep..........Since you got the shaft.........It seems only appropriate that they get the shaft also !!! ( No I'm not condoning this ...It's only humor !!) Good luck.........I hope it works out the best for you.........I've had mostly good luck with my tractors.........Only a few very minor warranty issues.............Tom

Re: TC 24D with the neaver ending story.

Hi George,
I looked at the front driveshaft on my 24D this morning as it was warming up. Actually I was tightening a hose clamp on a hydro flex hose coupling that was leaking and see what you mean about clearance between shaft and pan. From what I can tell the sleeve on my tractor isnt rubbing against the pan. Seems like it would be easy though if there was any flex in the frame or axle. My observation this morning was by lantern light so I could have missed something. Ill take another look in day light. jimg
