How important is it to change the hydraulic oil on my TC-25D? I asked a dealer and he said some people do and some don't. The oil looks new. I'm just over the 300 hr change point. Can I just change the filters? What about the oil in the loader? Does all the oil drain out or is some still left in the tractor?

Change it. Don't think, just change it. Ask the dealer what a new tranny would cost? Fluid and filter are cheap. Consider resale. Failure to change the fluid will make resale a tougher venture.

It's your money, so do as you please with it.. however.. I like to change my oils at -least- by the manufacturer specs.. I know it may seem like dumping good oil.. however how much is your hydro pump and other hydro components worth?
I can tell you that the deluxe dual spool pack used on many CNH tractors is 700$ by itself.. not including the QD pack.
I just replaced mine due to a casting flaw.. not a lube failure.. but still... I'd hate to think 30$ of oil caused that failure.
For what it's worth.. my big ford and NH tractors hold about 48 qts oil in the non-engine sumps... add to that a very expensive 1 gallon capacity hydro filter. I don't look forward to changes either.. but every time i look at that 2000$ hydro pump... the 100$ of oil don't look so bad..

I just went through it with my TC-24D for the first time at 310 hours. I too thought the oil looked like new, but when I had it drained in the 5 gallon bucket, it was obviously "worn". Heat and pressure breaks down just about any material and I would have to guess hydro fluid is no exception. If I'm correct on that guess, there isn't anything a new filter alone is going to do to improve it.
As you go down the check list in the manual, it also says to change the front axle oil and replace with hydro fluid (at least mine does). I considered skipping that part, but went ahead anyway and am glad I did. It was by far the dirtiest oil other than the engine oil.
Just a suggestion, I jacked mine up and removed the wheels to get at the drain plugs, filters, and fit buckets under. Well worth the effort. Pretty easy job really.

My dealer told me the same thing. When you add up all the prices for the filters, the hydro fluid is relatively insignificant. I personally feel better knowing it has fresh oil. There will always be some old fluid left in hydraulic attachments, not much you can do about that.
