The seal where the front driveshaft exits the transmission failed on my fil's TC 30 due to grass getting wound around the ujoint and shaft, ending up inside the seal.

Has this happened to anyone else? There are 4 bolt holes and a flat spot that look like it would be an ideal place to mount a protective plate, does anyone else have a plate there?

We wouldn't be suprised if a piece was left off, the 3ph lower arms were put on backwards, the R4 rear tires were put on dished in instead of out as specified in the owners manual.

I had the same problem with my TC29. I replaced the seal and then made a shield from some sheet metal, then used the 4 bolt holes you mentioned to bolt it on. Hardest part of the job was getting what was left of the old seal out. It was just a bunch of dry, hard, shreaded matter in the housing. Really small flat screwdriver did the job.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll make a shield and install it befor it becomes a problem.
