Ok, I have the DX-33. Same thing. How do these injector pumps work? Are they strictly gravity fed from the tank? I did the 50 hour service. After changing the fuel filter, the tractor ran about a 15 seconds and died. OK, air in the system. I tried to bleed the injectors. Nothing. Put old fuel filter back in. Nothing. Left fuel filter out. Nothing. Finally, I took the rubber hose off going from the filter to the injector pump at the pump. Nothing, for about 2 seconds, then fuel poured out. Hooked the line back up and started to bleed again. I got fuel to the injectors in about 5 seconds and got the tractor fired up. So I’m asking, does the injector pump not have any suction at all? I could tell that short rubber line from the filter to the pump was obviously empty, but I thought the injector pump would have sucked that little bit of air out. Especially if it ran for about 15 seconds after changing the filter. It’s no big deal, but I would have thought the manual would have mentioned to purge that short line. I’m no skilled mechanic by any means, but unless I’m the only one that had this problem, this little step should be mentioned in the owner’s manual.

I'm not familiar with your tractor, but, as a rule of thumb, if the fuel tank is mounted above the pump, then it's gravity feed. If the tank is below the inlet of the pump, a lift pump is incorporated to get fuel to the injection pump. Most pumps will not self prime and most pumps have a manual plunger that is used to achieve prime and remove air pockets.

Thanks for the info. I guess I’m trying to compare this pump to other tractors. Those, you just fill the filter with fuel and fire it up. I didn’t know the pump would not pull fuel. The tank on this tractor is above the pump. Like I said, it’s no big deal. But I would liked to have seen this in the manual. That way I wouldn’t have been wondering what I did wrong.

tkcomer,
Mine is a much smaller blue tractor, but I have not had any trouble after changing 2 filters. I just replace the filter and fill the fuel bowl with fuel, reinstall and fire it up. There is no manual pump that I know of. I have never had to bleed anything to get it to fire right up.

That’s what I did. I turned the petcock off, took the bowl off, swapped filters and turned the petcock back on. I watched the bowl fill with fuel and started the engine. Ran fine for about 15 seconds. Then the fun started as I tried to figure out what I did wrong.
