TC 35D won't start?

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

Sounds by your description that the starter is not engaging into the flywheel-disconnect the battery, remove the starter and test it out of the tractor(w jumper cables if thats what you have available)see to it that the drive moves out and it turns. Maybe it is just stuck-in. Let us know what you find. sounds like it is under warr though maybe call the dealer and tell them to get out and fix-it...

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

As you can tell, we're all still a little confused by the terminology. The starter is turning, yes, we got that, but now, is the engine turning as well, but just not "catching" as you say?

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

Sounds like bgott has it right. Your'e description sounds like the starter is turning but not engaging the flywheel. Same thing used to happen to my electric start snowblower. Your hear the wirring sound of the starter but the engine doesn;t actually crank. In a snowblower the centrifigul force overcomes a spring and throws the starter gear to engage the flywheel. When the shaft gets gummed up/cold it sticks and won't overcome the spring and engage. More prevalent the less you use it because rust has a chance to build up. If you can access the starter gear you may be able to spray some wd40 or light penetrating oil and then throw some heat on it. May be a simple fix.

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

gerard, if this is the case, I'd do like you suggested, except for the use of WD-40. We've found that WD-40 also gets thick when used in cold. One would think it's thin because when sprayed it comes out of the can with all the propellant and carrier fluid in it, but when it finally dries and all the carrier is gone, it get's thicker. We often resort to "Rem Oil" with teflon, or other slightly higer tech solutions when subject to extreme cold. Rem Oil was made for firearms and does not gum or get thick.

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

ok, I always thought wd40 was pretty much a solvent and evaporated pretty quickly which is why it isn't good as a long term lubricant - doesn't stay around. If it gums up then you're right - not a good application. There are a lot of lubricants out there that will work as long as you can access the problem shaft

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

Okay, problem fixed!

Sorry for the confusion, as I was finally able to work on it during daytime hours and see what was happening, as it turns out the fly wheel was turning.

Them problem seems to have been the fuel was simply not getting through to the injectors.

Bled out and cleaned out the fuel filter, then bled the air out at the injector and fuel was finally making it there.

Once that was solved it started no problem.

Now that I have lived through this little adventure I can now tell the difference between the starter cranking and the engine cranking.

I apologize for my high level of confusion and obvious ignorance. Obviously it is time for me to return to the dealer and get another tutorial! :-(

Thanks for all that posted here.

Way to go /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif It's always nice when something good turns out /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif and especially when it's a cheap and a simpler fix. Now time to get back to playing errrr working with your tractor.

Re: TC 35D won\'t start?

Bob, I notice you live in Ontario. I hail from South Central Michigan and I'm gonna assume you see weather at least as nasty if not much more so, depending on how far north you are. One thing I do come fall is try not too buy to much fuel until it gets quite cold. The reason being that the diesel mix usually changes in late fall to early winter here in Mich to include more additives to prevent gelling. The later I buy the better chance that I'm getting the cold weather mix. ... just a suggestion.
