Jim,

Thanks for the cut away drawing. I agree, it's all the way at the bottom and w/o a way to see down there (camera) I'm just fishing and hoping to snag it from the filler port. If I leave it, I am worried that it will get caught up in the gearing. Wont do much to the gears (I think) but what will happen to the pieces. It'll be like a bunch of plaque in a humans artery. Sooner or later it's gonna lodge some where and casue pump problems.

I'm about to go out and fish for awhile with the "gizmo" (parts retriever). I'm not too optomistic.

O.K. So much for trying to fish it out with the "gizmo". It may have fallen to the bottom and moved out of my reach or could be standing straight up but I don't feel it. Nothing but metal.

So I thought, take the top cover off the 3pt./rear axle. Started taking the seat off and of course, 1 or the 4 bolts doesn't want to budge without turning the whole stud. So it's soaking in pen. oil right now.

So, what horror am I about to venture on in taking that top cover off? What all has to come off that tractor to access that top plate. AND, is it going to slide off nice and easy or is the 3pt. lift stuff gonna get in the way.

Any other suggestions?

Just talked to the service dept. Good ole boy figures nothing's gonna happen if I leave it in there. Might just do that too. At $70/hr. labor (cause I'm thinken I don't want to attack this thing) I might just take the chance.

Fred, I don't know what type of plastic/rubber it was, but if it gets chewed up, it will probably put a few pieces into a screen or filter and most will flush out when you change the fluid the next time. I wouldn't want anything in there on my tractor, but if I lost a bit of plastic tubing, I would not lose a lot of sleep over it.

Let's go back to the original problem. A cheap flexspout funnel and a dollar store pitcher to decant up fluid makes changes or topping off easy. I like the idea of a water pitcher because you can rotate the top and leave fluid in it and not worry about it collecting dust. Hindsight is 20-20, so I won't rub salt into the wound. Stuff happens!

BTW: I love my Clean Funnels. I have a large green one and a small orange one. They are expensive, but they are also the only funnels I've had for years and are still spotless inside. They come in lots of sizes and varieties. Recommended!

WOO WHOOOO!!!!! Got that bugger!!!

Gave up on tearing the top off. Took a pen light and shined it down the dip stick port (after removing the holder and d.s.). Could barely see into the filler port what with fuel tank in the way. Sooo, unbolted same and put a couple rachet straps around it and the ROP and jacked it up. Peeked down the port and there it was, still standing up. BUT, it was wedged in the gears under the dip stick area (must have turned as I put it in). If I had engaged the PTO I probably would have chewed it up. Any way, after much contortions and eye strain I snagged it. Glad that's out of there. Have to button it all up tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, I'm going to find a 5 gal. bucket pump (as previously suggested). No more tempting fate.

Thanks for all the suggestions, especially the "gizmo". Wasn't easy but it worked.

WAY TO GO! Your persisitance paid off! Glad you snagged it. Check out Harbor Freight. thay have bucket pumps for under $20, I believe. That's where got mine and it's perfect for adding UTF to tractor reserviors.

Cool:)

Fred next time around, if I were you, I'd cut me a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" pvc about 3/4 long, cut a slit on the side, wrap it around the plastic tube and use several layers of tightly pulled electrical tape over the piece. That would guarantee you can not push the tube in to the hole even if you wanted too. What is the diameter of the fill on the tractor? of course I'd the restriction a bit bigger in dia of the hole.

a bore scope will get a picture in side of case. prices range from $250 to $1000 but a very handy tool to have.i am an automotive tech and use it regularly.saves time when you donot have to disassemble to view the problem.
