TC-40D Lube Questions

OK, for my 24D the book says to lube the following points:
clutch pedal - I found this one underneath at the point where the pedal attaches to the pedal shaft

steering linkage - no clue where this is...I looked everywhere it made sense and nothing..any ideas?

3-pt linkage - not sure where youd do this...this area gets very dirty and putting grease around it might be worse than none

brake pedal - underneath next to the pt where the clutch attaches to the pedal shaft...one grease fitting for each brake pedal

PS cylinder - underneath on each end of the PS cylinder

pedal shaft -- no clue what this would be

drive cover shaft -- this refers to the drive shaft to the front axle. There are two pts to lube, one on the narrow cover and the other on the large sort of cone shaped one where drive shaft and axle meet.

pivot shaft - located at the front of the tractor at the pt where the front axle pivots. This can be seen from the front of the tractor looking down from the hood.

HST pedal pivot - On the inboard side of the HST pedal at about 11:00

Im writing this down mainly for anyone else who might have trouble locating some of these....like myself. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, that seems to be the case according to my dealership...one size manual fits all. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif So, what the book shows doesn't necessarily coincide w/ whats on you're tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm thinking that most of this manual might be a good stand in for the old sears catalog. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

( heavy the zirk at the front of the 4wd drive shaft just behind the front axle, just in front of where the shaft cover enters. Not sure where all this grease goes, but 30 to 40 pumps of the grease gun is not too much )

Your not just whistling dixie. I had just loaded a new tube in my grease gun, and lubed the NH 1920 I had.. I saved that fitting for last as I had to kneel down to get to it... I emptied the gun on it.. never saw anything pushed out. I've lubed it in the past.. in fact after I park my tractor I give every zerk a hit.. and at an oil change I pump each zerk till it pushes some out.. that one however.. I probably only hit about 5-6 pumps each time... Where is all that grease going??? It took about 2/3 to 3/4 of a tube...

This is hard to understand b/c if it comes from the factory w/ too little then I can believe it might take a substantial amt to fill up the void (where ever that is). (This also raises the question why its being mfged w/ less.) If it comes w/ enough then its either going some place you dont know about (and will eventually fill up and stop taking so much) or its being used up in some way (seems like youd smell it if that much grease is being comsumed). In any case comsuming that much grease on a regular interval seems very extreme.

I've always wondered if any of that is going into the driveshaft cover, but have never seen any evidence of it. Maybe my 30-40 pumps was a little over exageration, but I only lube a few times through the course of the year. Probably hit most zirks with a few hits and that one with something close to 20. With my old 1720, the first few times after starting to hear problems, I did hit it with something in the range of 30-40. Maybe there's a large void and it then slowly leaks back out with use and just drops on the ground. I have seen some evidence of grease that has fallen on the steering rod that connects the two sides.

That Zerk is a black hole!

I've had a thought that it may be filling up the drive shaft tube, in which case it may eventually poop out the front or the rear of the shaft tube. While I'm under there chugging away, I get visions of my radiator or battery or something filling up with nasty black grease. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I couldn't find the fitting for the "cover drive shaft" #18 in the manual for my 2006 tc45da (no super steer) I think I figured out that it's the one at the back of the front axle pivot ,near the front of the drives haft cover. #17 "Front axle pivot" is on the front side of the front axle pivot
