TC 40D tach test

I have a TC40D model year 2000. The tach and hour meter does not work. It is getting juice to the back of the control panel. I popped open the control panel last night pull out the tach looked okay. Does anyone know how to test the tach itself and the 4 prongs on the control panel that the tach inserts into?
