Okay, time to ask another question. I was speaking to a dealer who said, why bother paying 2K more for a 45DA and all you gets is 5 more HP? I do not know why. Are there other reasons why 2K for five more HP make the 45DA a better choice than a 40DA? Are there are features that justify 2K more for the 45DA?

I asked the local Kioti dealer the same thing and he said that 5 more hp in compact tractors is a big deal. Not so noticable in the giant 100plus hp ag tractors but a lot more grunt with the small boys.

A couple years ago when I purchased my TC40D the mid PTO was only available on the 40 and not the 45. That made my decision to go to the 40. Now I believe it is available on both. Five hp will make a difference in PTO performance. Depending on your usage of the tractor and the tasks at hand this may or may not make any difference. On occation I have wished I had a few extra horsepower, both tractor wise and personally. Look at the attachments you will be running with the tractor and their hp requirements. That should help dictate weather to get the 35, 40, 45 or larger/smaller.

If you plan to buy the "DA" model tractor with a hydrostatic transmssion, don't bother with the TC45DA. The dealer gave you good advice. The only thing where you can even remotely see a difference on that tractor is in PTO HP. I guess if you wanted the maximum width rotary cutter, you might get one on the TC45DA that's a foot wider than the TC40DA. That's considering you use the formula of 5 hp per foot. In all honesty, I don't think you will want to go above 7' on either tractor. An 8' wide cutter is pretty darn large unless you have a very open field.

The hydrostatic transmissions on both those tractors uses the same pressure relief valve, so the TC45DA can't pull anymore than the TC40DA. Also, the hydraulic pump pressure is the same, so the 3PH and the loader have exactly the same specs on both tractors.

I guess an argument could be made by someone buying the gear tractor that the extra 5 hp was worth the money, but I don't think that's true for the hydro. Save your money for other "goodies." This is coming from a TC45D owner. If I had known what I know now, I'd be driving a TC40D instead. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks to all of you. Your comments are very helpful. It is great to hear from folks who have been there and done it.
TC40DA looks like the best way to go.

is that the same for the 35 also?

I looked at the NH webapge, looks like pump flows the same for all of them, 35, 40 and 45.

I looked at the specs on the 40D vs 45D. Does anyone know why the 40D weighs 3433 and the 45D weighs 3738??? Why 300 # more?

I believe the 35 is a three cylkinder engine as opposed to the 40/45 which are four cylinder engines. The four cyl. will give you a smoother running engine and more torque. I'd be curious why the 45 hp model is 300 Lbs heavier than the 40 hp. In the specs the engine shows a bigger bore piston for the 45hp so I guess they don't just turn up the injector pump for the extra 5 hp. Maybe it is a different engine block and that is where the extra 300 Lbs comes from. I don't think its got anything to do with the badging stickers?! What types of implements are you going to be running? Let us know how you make out.
