OK I am at a loss. I will admit I haven't tried a few things but it is raining too hard to go out and work on it right now. I was removing my backhoe this morning and the tractor was ideling just fine. I had been unhooking things for a few minutes when it sounded like it was trying to die. I reached forward and upped the throttle a little and it sputtered and died. It will crank but will not fire. No smoke no nothing. Including fuel. I checked the filter and bowl and all is well. I cracked the injector line and no fuel is coming out when cranked. So I am figuring it is a solenoid or a pump. Very strang for it to just die while ideling. I am open to ideas but as soon as the rain stops I am going to check the solenoid and fuses.

it sure sounds like fuel problem. you're in the right track to check the solenoid. Is you discharge pipe out of fuel oil is rubber ? can you easily remove the hose/pipe to the inlet of injector pump. I'd close the fuel valve. get a small container to catch diesel fuel, I then remove the hose/piping to the pump inlet and put the container under it. I then turn the fuel valve on. You should have free flow of fuel. if you don't then you have some blockage. In my case , my tank was low on fuel, I was sloshing around a fuel quite a bit on an uneven ground and as a result picked up piece of rubber that came off the cap in to the fuel valve and that stopped the fuel flow. cleaned the tank and blew the valve open with a bot of compressed air and I was good to go.

First, pull up on the parking brake handle until the parking brake light comes on. Now, try to start it. If it starts, your seat switch is bad. My tractor died last week and would not restart until I pulled up on the parking brake lever. I looked at my seat switch jumper and it was a bit corroded, so I cleaned the spade connections and reinserted the jumper. BINGO! The tractor fired and runs normally now. Just because you have the seat bypassed, always check to make sure it's a good connection.
If that is not it, you can look at fuse #2. It supplies power to the fuel cutoff solenoid. If it is blown, the PTO lamp will be on all the time on the instrument panel.
If neither of those things, then look at fuel supply even though you seem to have a clean filter.

Since it started sputtering and sounded like it was trying to die, I don't think it's a safety switch. It sounds like an air in the fuel problem, a suction side leak will do exactly what you saw. But so will gasoline in the fuel or as clog in the system somewhere.
I'd crack the injector lines, set the throttle at full, and crank it a bit to see if you begin to get fuel at the injectors. If not crack the fuel line where it enters the injection pump to see if fuel is arriving there. If it is you may have a problem with the shutoff solenoid, but I doubt it. If you suspect that's it, you can jump it to bypass all safeties for a test.
Maybe the fuel is shut off at the fuel filter (I've done it).
Look for a fuel problem first.

Well I figured it out, or should I say it figured itself out. I don't know for sure what it was but it was a fuel delivery problem. Jinman I was thinking along those same line of a corroded seat jumper so I looked at that first. All was fine. Next I removed the cut off solenoid and made sure it was working and everything there seemed to be fine also. I cracked the injector line at both the injectors and at the injector pump and was not getting any fuel when it was cranked. Back to the fuel pump and filter. Filter bowl was full of clean fuel and valve was on. So I removed the fuel supply line at the injector pump and did not get any fuel. Clogged fuel supply line past the filter is the best I could come up with. When I removed the rubber line and cranked the engine the tractor tried to fire right away. I turned it off and attached the rubber line back to the injector pump and it has been running fine the rest of the day. Either a clogged line that worked itself out or some sort of air lock.

Mine ran for a few years just fine and then would stop sometimes. There was a small piece of plastic debris that got into the fuel line and stopped at the barb fitting. It would sometimes cover the hole and stop fuel. Tricky to find.

Glad you got going Skinnr. Of course, I'm always skeptical and cautious when something "fixes itself" because I know it may "break itself" again at an inopportune time.
I hope your clog is completely cleared, but there have been enough fuel tank clogs as Raspy pointed out to make me always be a little leary of what might happen. However, that said, you can't fix what ain't broke, so enjoy and just keep your fingers crossed.:thumbsup:

Parked it over night and now it is not stariting again. I really got after it this afternoon trying to figure it out and I am stumped. So I am not getting fuel at the injectors at the engine block but getting fuel at the injector pump. I am wondring if the fuel pump is bad. I took off the fuel line and cranked it over and the fuel only gulpped out. It did not seem to come out under pressure. How much pressure should the fuel come out under? Does the injector pump require pressure from the fuel pump to fire? I bypassed the filter bowl and let gravity feed the injector pump and had fuel at the bleeder screw on the injector pump but no fuel at the injectors when I cracked them. So I took out the fuel cut off solenoid. Solenoid worked but I tried to fire it with the solenoid removed. Still no fuel. Plugged injector pump maybe? Bad fuel pump? Not sure where to go from here. I hope my injector pump is not bad !!!!

In the first post you said that this problem started when the tractor was idling as you removed the backhoe. Did you disconnect the hydraulics while the tractor was idling?
