Hi All.

I need some reassurance.

I ordered a 7' Woods 840 medium duty bush hog for my new TC 48. According to the specs for the both the tractor and the hog, it should make a happy marriage - But I just went by the Woods dealer and my new Bush Hog is in. WOW!!! Is that a beefy looking piece of equipment!! :eek: Just looking at it I wonder if I over-bought??

Weights in at 1280#, plus another hundred or two for the optional second wheel I bought. PTO is good at 540rpm, but I'm concerned about moving that hunk of iron around!?! Tractor specs say it can lift 3,465#'s, 24" behind the Cat 2 balls, and the Woods specs say a minimum of 40 tractor HP so I assume I'm good to go. But it would be nice to have some reassurance from some folks with experience.

Will I need front end weights?

With your loader on you should be ok . Without it , well you might want to keep the tail wheels on the ground

I have the woods 720. If i remember correctly it weighs near 1150 lbs. With the FEL on i`ve never had any problems.I even use it for a counter weight when lifting very heavy loads with the FEL.The rear tires never leave the ground.I`ve never removed the loader so cannot say how it will be if not attached

I think you will be fine.. though front weight will help.. your loader should be good weight.

I run a 10' 3pt mower on a ford 5000. I know that is a few more horses than your 48.. but the 10' mower is also 2500#. I have 420# of suitcase weights up front. it's fine for moderate teraine. if I has in big hills and vallies.. i think I'd throw another 200# on and call it good and safe.

I don't know what model my bush hog 5' rotory cutter is, but my TC55DA has no problem working with it. Never tried to cut with the loader off, but I guess I have to try that some day.

I run my 6 foor Bush Hog with a TN70A. works fine. 70 HP. enjoy your setup. I can run in second gear in 3-4 foot grass. 1st gear for 7 foot grass.
