Sort of looking to get a set of Turfs for my tractor and the manual states 22x9-12 for the fronts. Appears Carlisle makes 1 tire that fits that size. The have 9 or so tires in the turf category. Can anyone tell me what NH puts on them?

On a side note I picked up a set of Bridgestone PD1's for the back really cheap. There not sold in the US though.

pekabu,

My TC24DA came with Titan Multi Trac turf tires. The dimensions of the rear are 31x13.50-15 and the front are 22x9.00-12.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, that helps the search, but it also confuses me. The manual for my TC24d calls for 29x12-15 in the back, and 22x9-12 in the front?

Have you checked with Chappell? I got a set of take offs for short money (4 tires & wheels for $400) for my TC18...

Same with my 24D. When I first started looking, the machines on the lot had the 29" on them, by the time I decided to buy, they were coming with the 31". I think they "upgraded" to the larger tire but never changed the manual or sales brochure.

But here's were I think it gets interesting. I have always wondered if that change in tire size should have had a change in gearing to compensate for loss of power. I know its not much, about 6% or 7% (6 inches of travel per rotation), but when we did that much of a change on our Jeeps with oversized tires, we had better known the difference and adjusted our cruising speed as shown on the speedometer or get some tickets. 50 mph on the speedometer was closer to 60 mph as an example. In other words it resulted in quite a bit of change on the effective gear ratio.

Most here have always said they run out of traction before they run out of power. My main disappointment with the 24D has always been that I run out of power before I run of traction, and that is with just washer fluid in the tires and a blade on the back with FEL. The tractor just stops when digging in with the FEL with little change on the rpms of the motor. There is plenty more power to deliver to the wheels, it just can't. I know the HST is infinite in gear ratios, etc, but it all comes down to the relief valve. Mine has been checked and is at the highest setting recommended. The larger tire simply gets a mechanical advantage over the relief valve (IMHO) under strain and the valve pops.

I've posted on the issue of the HST not getting all the power to the wheels many times before and have accepted it as a fact of life with the basic function of HST, but still wonder if there was more deliverable power available for digging on the older machines with smaller tires.

Does that make any sense? Anybody else have the smaller tire on the class I boomers and not have trouble with power?

Makes perfect sense.

I have R4s and turfs for my TC18. The turfs are significantly smaller diameter than the R4s (see attached) and they squish to a smaller "effective" diameter under load. I can climb the hill up from the backyard in high range with the turfs, have to switch to low range with the R4s....

Thanks for the picture!

Maybe I'm just confused, but it seems like changing around tire sizes(overall diameter;ex.29" vs. 31") without changing front tire sizes, would affect the 4 wheel drive. When engaged in 4 wheel drive, the front tires would be rolling along at factory rated ground speed, while the larger rear tires would be trying to cover more ground at that speed.
Hope that made sense?

Definitely would have an effect. I never actually checked for a change in the front tire size from the factory. They must of have changed either the tire or the gearing. The older TCs, as I remember, came through with Carlilse tires, the newer ones came through with the larger Titan tires. It was all done at the factory, nothing that I or the dealer adjusted.
