Ballast TC24 Wheel Weights

Anybody have a picture of a TC24 equipped with wheel weights? Is there a genuine New Holland item or are they all aftermarket? The ones that I picked up do not fit inside the rim and are not made very well. Thanks.

Where did you pick up the ones you have. If they are the New Holland ones then they don't fit well on that tractor. I had to downsize to a smaller boltand put them in at an angel. I wasn't impressed either with mine but made them work. The bolt pattern is about an 1/8" off.

I got them through Corriher in NC. They were not New Holland and came from a manufacturer in NC. Extremely rough casting and seem to be a universal type fit with lots of holes to chose from. I was hoping that the New Holland part would be better quality and fit. Does the New Holland part mount on the outside of the rim? Thanks.

They mounted to the outside of the rim but stayed with in the tires. They did not stick out past the tires. In fact they stayed within a ways.

Hello, I have the New Holland rear weights that I purchased new when we graded our new driveway. We needed a bit more weight to push around the Class II base that formed the foundation for the concrete approach and driveway. Also working on steep terraces required a bit more weight closer to the ground.
The weights are of poor quality and somewhat ill fitting. I had to get the right sized carriage bolts but I am using the wrong grade. They really should be Grade 5 but Home Depot only had the $#% ones. They require frequent retorquing and I dread removing the weights so I just let them be. I have found them to be a worthwhile investment in steel or is it iron?

George, thanks for the photos. They look better than the ones that I got, but seem to have the same issues I was concerned about. Difficult to mount/unmount, frequent retorquing, etc. I'm thinking of making fabricating a bracket with a single threaded rod that I can mount to four bolt holes in the rim. Then mount 2- 50lb barbell type weight on the rod. It would be easier to mount/unmount and should not work loose. It would also fit deeper in the rim instead of on the surface. There are some others that have done this on the forum and it looks like a good solution to me. Thanks again for the picture.

Just wondering why going through all the effort of weights. I understand the flexibility of being able to remove weight for certain tasks, and am sure it all depends on you specific needs, but here is some food for thought based on my experience.

I have the TC24D with turfs. When I bought it I "knew for sure" I did not want loaded tires due to my very soft and wet mowing requirements. Within two weeks I took the tires back to the dealer to have washer fluid and tubes put in. It was just too light even with a back blade attached. The turfs took about 20 gallons each, or appox 160 lbs each. Big difference in feeling safe!!! Turns out the extra weight made no change in the tracks left in the lawn from the rear tires, in fact it reduced the rutting caused by the front tires now that the tractor was better balanced. I have not since wished the rear end was lighter at any time for any circumstance, and the machine is safer and performs better.

My point is you might want to consider an alternative. I have 75 lb weights on my Gravely and even those are a PITA to take off and replace in the event the tire needs removing. All depends on your situation. If you have R4 or R1 tires and are concerned about the lawn, probably a whole other story. Just thought I would try to confuse your problem a little more /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Where abouts in NY are you?

Sorry can't help with the weight issue but I saw the picture of your tc24, what is attached to the fel?

Badge 142, what you see attached to the FEL is the New Holland Suitcase weights that were added to counterbalance the rear fire rig attachment I added to the tractor. The bracket started out as a 3-point suitcase weight attachment but never really used it that way. I then had the need for more weight on the front end and so……….yet another custom weld job.

My observation is that additional weight seems to make back blading in the float position more effective. Also they are easy to remove when needed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
