Update! .. removed the fuel filter and it was clean. The diesel however was not. It was full of either water or gel. I drained the entire tank and siphoned the rest out with a drill pump. I flushed the tank with some new diesel and cleaned the filter in a bath of good diesel. (45min drive to the New Holland dealer and it's a Sunday). Filter has only a couple hours on it so I think I'm ok.. I'll be picking up a couple spare filters this week.
Air filter although appeared to be dirty and obstructed, was not. I put my shop vac on the end of it and it barely drew down. Since it's higher end shopvac this tells me there is nothing of concern with the air filter.
I've put it all back together and it runs fine. I'll have to pick up some diesel and wait until the next storm (tomorrow) to really try it.
I'll post my results in case anyone else ever searches this thread.
