TC33D
I'm looking at the TC24D and the TC29D both tractors would be equiped with FEL, 756C Backhoe and R4's. The prices are confusing quoted 19,784 for the TC24D and 24,294 for the TC29D. By some of the post I see the TC24 is priced about right but the TC29D seems high, any thoughts here.

are you sure the dealer is not putting a 757c backhoe on the TC29? The 756c is a little small for this tractor and this would account for some of the price difference.

No, both of the quotes are with the 756C. I would want to go with the 757C if I purchased the TC29D, but the quote was just different tractor and FEL. The price seems about 2000 too high from the other posts I've seen.

Thanks for your help!

just to compare....I got a TC33D with the 7308 loader, 757C backhoe and 1 extra remote, no super steer, for 23,000 last Summer. I agree, from what I have been seeing lately on this forum it seems like your TC29D quote is a coupel of thousand high. Get the class II boomer unless you really need to get into tight spaces with the small one. I use a riding lawn tractor for right around the house. I actually sometimes wish I had gotten a class III boomer. I think the middle size frame is a good compromise though because it isn't too big to easily trailer around and isn't too little to get serious work done. Good Luck in your negotiations. You will love the tractor.

I too am trying to make a similar decision, but it's between the 24D & 33D. First, I picked the these two models because I believe in getting the most HP for a given frame size. I live on a steep hill and believe I'll need all the power I can get. I have 5 acres, which is mostly wooded, but that is slowly changing as I find more areas to clear or trails to cut. The 24D is probably sufficient to get the job done, but the 33D seems to be a better value. For an extra $2600, you get the following: an extra 750lbs of tractor, a heavier frame, a 3 range HST,a more adjustable 3pt, nicer seat, tilt steering wheel, better FEL control location, nicer HST pedal, 9 more HP, increased FEL & 3pt lifting capacities. Seems like an easy choice to me, but here is the kicker: My new shed is long enough (without the FEL), and tall enough (with folding ROPS), but the doors are only 70" wide. The NH brouchure states that the 33D is compatible with the 60" deck, but I measured a 33D with R4's and it was 62" wide. The turf tires look to be the same width. I plan to keep the FEL behind my shed under a tarp. I don't want to do this to the tractor. Does it make any sense to have tractor with a MMM that isn't as wide as the tractor?

The brouchure states that the 33D is 54" wide with the tires dished in. I assume the measurement is with the AG tires, but I'm not sure what "dished in" means or if it is applicable to the R4 width. I hav eso many questions when I visit a dealer, I forget to ask a couple. Anyone with any answers?

Also, when I bought my shed I had planned for a Kubota with a 60" deck, but that was before I ever visited a NH dealer. A carport or new structure is out of the question. It fits in the shed or no new tractor.

BigDave, I have a 25D (same frame as the 33D) with the 60" side discharge mmm. No problem getting close to objects on the driver's left. If you go with rear discharge (which I wish I would have done) you can get close to objects on both sides, plus you will not have to raise the chute to get it in the shed. So, I think it makes sense to get a 60" mmm.

BigDave:

I have a TC29 with R4's, and yes it does measure @ 62" outside to outside. However not all of that width is on the ground. My point being that a 60" mid mount rear discharge deck should cover all of your foot print. And still fit within the confines of your shed doors.

If you are considering a 72" deck, would it be hard to modify or widen your shed doors?

Thanks for the replies, when I measued the R4's, I added 2" for tire bulge on each side, but I didn't think about the actual tread width on the ground. So now I have 60" cutting width vs. 58" tire footprint. That works for me.

mikePA: Is your side discharge offset to the left at all?

The shed was built only a month ago and cost about $5K. I know that's a lot for a shed, but it's 12x18 with a porch, 3 doors, 5 windows with shutters, vinyl siding, architectual shingles, ridge vent, interior shelves, plenty of pressure treated wood, and built on-site. I'll run electric in the fall, so it's almost a mini-house. So doing anything to the shed would be VERBOTEN! and maybe even a divorceble action. So the tractor fits in the shed as is, or no tractor. The FEL is an allowable exception for outside storage, since my wife really agrees with it's usefullness. The only tractor small enough to fit in the shed with a FEL is the BX2200, and she agreed that it was too small even for her. WOW, what a break! The JD X595 which technically may or may not be a "real" tractor would also fit with a FEL, but that is really expensive for what you get. My local JD dealer likes retail pricing. So it wasn't a real consideration. With the FEL exception in place, I am now free to look at larger tractors.

Also, has anyone considered the structural strength of the rear discharge vs side discharge mmm. The rear discharge deck is completely flat, with full lip in the front and only a partial lip on the rear. It does have two bumpers on the outer edge which is good. The side discharge deck has the raised tunnel for discharge which should increase lateral strength. It also has two full lips front & rear, with additional lip roll inward in the front. It is also 50lbs heavier, but maybe 10lbs of that is the chute. All this may not matter with 7 gauge steel deck, when compared to the 9.5 gauge deck for Kubota B2910. Maybe I'm over thinking this, but if I have to seal/weld cracks in the deck after a couple of years, I probably wouldn't be a happy camper.

Nope, in fact the edge of the blade corresponds to the edge of the rear tire. The edge of the deck is another 1/8"-1/4" farther to the left. BTW, either deck would be fine and well made. I don't think you'll be welding any seams in a few years. Plus a side discharge deck will not fit in your shed without rasing up the chute, perhaps not even then.

BigDave, just to let you know I went with the TC33D. The TC24 was just plain uncomfortable to get on and off, not enough room between the seat and steering wheel. Good luck with your decision. Hey! post a picture of that shed.
