Has anyone seen this before? My 24 is only 52 hours old, and I just noticed the damage tonight. It looks like the bolt head on the lowest part of the lower arms is gouging each R4 tread - pretty bad /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif - plus, the galvanized U shaped hook on the turnbuckle is rubbing into the sidewall of the tire /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. It is happening on both sides. Could this be because my tires are dished in (out? not sure which is which). Thanks.

Yup. Did it to one of my tires. It is operator error /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. You have your stabilizer turnbuckels set to wide, they effectively pull the lower link arms into the tires and chew off the corners of the R4 treads. I was lucky and caught mine pretty early, and I only damaged my right tire. The stabilizer turnbuckles need to be adjusted to push the lower link arms in toward the PTO shaft, they should also both be adjusted such that the implement is centered behind the tractor, in my case they were off a bit and I was pulling to the right

When I took delievery of my 24 it came w/ a bungy cord that holds the arms together when no implement is attached. Did you notice the small loops on the inside of the lower arms? Thats where the cord attaches. This keeps the arms pulled together and off of the tires. That is, unless the turnbuckles are so loose that the whole affair swings far enough to contact the tires.

I had a simliar issue on a JD 4100 and I turned (reversed) my R4's...it gave me a little more room and stability as well. May not be the cure all of course, but it may help..

I haven't use a 3pt implement that much, but I did notice one side rubbing on the tire pretty early on. I tightened up the turnbuckle, and this past winter I dished out the tires.

Bobby,

I had similar with my new Mahindra 3510. The 84" rear finish mower was actually Cat II, which held the arms too wide, barely clearing, but hitting the turnbuckle handles.

I considered widening the wheels, but didn't like the idea because of fitting on my trailer.

I purchased a quickhitch from TSC and adjusted/modified all the implements so they fit easily on the hitch without making any changes. The hitch is much narrower and brought the arms in substantially.

I was also able to tighten the lower arm turnbuckles to hold it basically fixed in the middle. Since the QH stays on the tractor all the time, no need for rubber strap to hold the arms when not in use.

Good luck.

Horstuff, the same thing occured with my 33DA /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I noticed that when I attached an implement, the arms were spread almost to the max. If the hitch pins on your implements point out, reverse them so they point in toward the center of the implement. This will bring the lift arms in toward the center and further away from your tires when an implement is attached. Worked great for me /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Great Idea Trkbldr! I too have noticed the arms rubbing the tires at certain times. Switching those around like that is ok? I mean, it still gives everything the stability that it needs right? I wonder to, if this makes hooking up to the implements any easier? I have gotten 300% better at hooking up the box grader after using the mower, but sometimes it still gives me a hard time.

Luckily what everyone said was right about usually only having to line up the pto shaft once, when you release it after mowing and switch implements, as long as you haven't used the pto for anything else, it is still in the correct position.

Even if it has been used or bumped, with the tractor OFF and the PTO lever not engaged, the rear PTO shaft will turn quite easily.

I have the TC40 and the only way I have found to get it to line up is by turning the mower blades on the finish mower to line it up with the pto. I posted for a fix for this problem as soon as we got the tractor and it doesn't matter what gear your in or not, it won't turn. Even using a screwdriver to try and turn it doesn't work.

But like I said, it is not really a problem now, as long as I don't use the pto before I reattach the finish mower
