Hello gentlemen. It has been a while since I have posted here and I was formally known as (Mega_Me). Today my 24DA broke in half with the 756C hoe on it and at this point I have pics only. I plan to post further information soon.

Looks like it had a sub frame in the pics...

How did this happen? It seems beyond belief that this could happen. Is it an unusual and extraordinary use situation or engineering and manufacture problem? Either way, not good reading.

i was gonna ask if it was framed but I'm pretty sure I see one.

I have a woods 6500 on an old ford 850 ( mor etractor than that 24 ).. but it only has a ho-made partial frame on it I made.

keep us posted.

more pics of the damage..

details of what was being done..e tc. etc..

ps.. sorry about the tractor!

Lots of upward force in the middle if FEL and backhoe both had weight. Hopefully it was under warranty?

you'd think the subframe would have bore much of that?

This is one of those things that give me nightmares. What do you do if your tractor is out of service when this happens? Is this kind of damage repairable?

There have been some that have been repaired as well as some that they haven't fixed under warrantee or a extended warrantee where assistance has been by dealer as well as CNH.

repair by replacement usually, if it's something like a split trans case.

what to do while down? swap over to your spare tractor i guess.

Sorry to leave you guys hanging. This is a 2004 model with just a tad over 900 hours, all private use. The loader and backhoe were purchased at the same time the tractor itself was and are the "New Holland" brand. The 756C model backhoe does in fact have a subframe as all the NH hoes in that line did at the time. At this point I'm waiting for the insurance adjuster to contact me. Nonetheless, the "extension housing", which is the part that failed is $915.00. Not to mention what else is damaged as there is hydralic oil leaking out from under it now. Stay tuned......I forsee another split in the future!

Soundguy, long time no see!

Uh, I have no spare tractor..... And yeah I'm thinking I should be ordering parts today. I really don't think this will be too bad of a job at all. Just $$$$$

How did it break? Were you using the backhoe at the time or the front loader?

bad enought IMHO,

I don't like haow they designed that extension housing.. IMHO.. webbing was too thin and asked for it.

they could have put another 5$ of CI ribs in it and made a better product.. :(

good luck to you.

It appears that the crack propagated from the top left of the casting in a crevasse about an inch down. (100_2688.jpg). Witness marks show a small amount of fracturing and rust in the effected area compare to the right side which shows a fresh cast iron crack.

This is a typical fatigue failure. As soon as a crack in cast-iron appears it will propagate through what is called extreme fiber.

Good point. Curious if that is the case here. I always keep my FEL on the ground for stability, but this is another reason to do so.

Holy smokes Joe!!!...what the heck happened?

IIRC...when you last split it you found the bellhousing bolts loose? Can't help but wonder if those loose bolts acted like a shearbolt or fuseable link if you will. Now that the bolts are most likely still tight, the next weakest point would be the case? Someone mentioned rust in part of the crack. Possibly it started to crack back when you had the leak/loose bolts?

Anything new regarding getting it fixed?
Update your progress when you can because I'd like to see the repair if you do it

Get with your dealer and have them file an "ASSIT" with NH. Also have them check if there have been any previous reports of this happening on any other TC24's. Ask them to get in touch with their NH service rep and make sure that he files a report on it. It has been known for the rep to be able to provide some type of assistance. Not saying that they will, but it's at least worth a shot.
