That's what I was thinking considering it was discovered at the 50 hr service and why I asked about any evidence of prior "wrenching". This might be a case of "How good is my dealer?" since as Chanceu indicates there is no way of proving who or what could have caused this. I agree figuring out the purpose of the plug should be first. Somebody here must have a service manual they could check?

I spent some time in my manual and to be honest the illustration doesn't look exactly like what you have, nor my TC24d (This is the right manual for it though). Anyway, the only real mention of this bolt is in section 29, chapter 1 page 29-58. It is in the "Range and Rear PTO Shift Rail and Fork Removal" procedure. They are referred to as parts 10 (Washer) and 11 (bolt).

The paragraph reads:

Remove shift rail, 8, and range shift fork, 5, and PTO shift fork,6. Remove Set Bolt, 11, and washer seal, 10, from outside the case. Slide rail, 8 forward and remove range fork, 5.

It appears from the diagram that this bolt possibly holds the shift rail in place.

I don't know what a dealer has to do to a tractor when it is received, but that could explain why this bolt would've been loosened or tightened. If any of those parts have to be installed or adjusted after dealer delivery, they could've over tightened it.

What manual are you looking at? Is it the parts manual?

Thanks

If it is a shifter rail.. get it fixed.. I wouldn't be messing with the pto till I did either!
