Jim, I had to disassemble the dash and brackets under the hood to get to the fuel tank on my tractor as well and yes the fuel line was in the bottom of the tank.

UPDATE : Yesterday, after putting the tractor back together and filling with fresh diesel fuel I ran it for about 1 hour. Went up and down the road for about 30 minutes to get the tractor hot before doing some FEL work. Didn't have a great deal to do but in that hour the tractor ran flawless with no loss in RPM's!

I have 28 tons of gravel coming this week and will have a much better idea this weekend if she is fixed or not. The only conclusion I can draw is it had bad fuel or my buddy added gas or got water in the diesel fuel can when he filled it for me???

Hopefully you won't be hearing from me this week and that will mean she is running fine!!!

Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Sounds like you are back in business! Hope you are able to move all your gravel.

I sure hope your tractor is fixed even though you didn't find a specific cause. All that taking apart of the fuels system either dislodged something or you stopped a small air leak, etc.
Good luck with all that gravel this weeked!

What cured it was draining the diesel/gasoline mix from the tank and using straight diesel fuel, as was intended.

If it wasn't gas in the fuel, then it was water. I am suprised no mentioned that possibility. Anyway the drain and refill would take care of both or either.

There is a lesson to be learned here:

Never let someone else put fuel in your tractor unless it is your fuel from your can.

RickB,
Why would having gas in the fuel cause it to run for a half hour and quit which was the original complaint?
