I have had a small oil leak for about eight months on my TC24DA. Occasionally, I would find a fresh drop of oil under the rear axle which appeared to have fallen from the "pumpkin". When I took the tractor to my dealer for the 50-hour service, I told them about the leak and they said they would fix it. My dealer explained the pumpkin fit together with a machine fit and there was no gasket. They claimed the problem was fixed but the drip returned within one week after I took it home.

Recently, I walked to the garage and found a large puddle of oil under the pumpkin. I took a picture and attached it to this thread. I checked the bolts around the pumpkin and they were tight.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I welcome any comments or helpful advice.

Here's another picture of the leak - looking from middle of tractor toward the back.

I think that gentle power wash would help. Oil can appear to becoming from one spot when it really is coming from another. Then, put some waste card board underneath it and then take time with clean paper towels to look for the site of origin. Guessing where the leak is coming from is a waste of time and expensive. You can do all the work of finding the site of the leak, then direct the dealer or TBN to the site for the right fix. This is not the time for guessing. Too costly.

I had a similar leak - though not near that bad - only a few drops/little puddle after sitting. When it went back to the dealer for another item I had them fix. Unfortunately I don't know what the fix was, but it hasn't been a problem since. I wish I could tell you what it was, it could have been a gasket to silicone to just retightening, unfortunately that was 3 years ago and I doubt that the dealer would remember.

Wow, I can't believe I've had my tractor 3 years. :)

Thanks for the reply jwstewar,

I had a funny feeling someone else had a similar leak. I will definately bring the problem to my dealer's attention...again.

Thanks again,

Jeff,

I've been off of here for a while. I had a "mystery" oil leak to and found that this fitting forward of the hyd. oil filter on the right side was leaking. Can't remember what size metric wrench fit on it but I was able to snug it back up and no more leaks. It amazes me how an oil leak travels from one place to another before it shows up! Hope this helps. Joe

I agree. Oil can be very deceptive. I do a very light power wash and then look for the real source of the leak.

Compact1,

Did you ever find the source of the leak?

Hello,

I had a oil (fluid) leak in my TZ24DA that was less than 2 years old and still under warranty. We had noticed the leak for sometime but thought the transmission was too full and it was overflowing. We took it back to the dealer and they thought we had a oil seal in the rear-end leaking and replaced it. Then one day I was mowing on a steep bank (uphill) and it stalled and started rolling backwards with me. I evenutally got it stopped and it would only go downhill so I go it back in a level spot and fluid was everywhere and that time they told me the whole transaxle was cracked, they thought the lift arms had come up and put too much pressure on it

This time I no longer felt confident in using the mower on our hills and banks so we decided to buy a new 2006 TZ25DA.

Hope your leak doesn't get worse or do what ours has. Do you notice alot of transmission whine?

Now the good part. Got the new 2006 TZ25DA and in less than 6 weeks with around 40 hrs. on it stalled like the TZ24 on another bank and when we got it to a level spot the fluid was everywhere. This time they thought it blew a seal and replaced the seal. As they pulled it up on the rollback to bring it back to me it started leaking again (seeping) and thank goodness they noticed it. This time they took it back in the shop and I think they replaced the seal again but it still leaked so they put a dial indicator on the shaft and it's a "smidgen" too long (factory defect).

Now this makes two of the New Holland mowers that have given us a very similar problem. I mow about 8 hrs a week flat and hilly terrain. I don't pull anything or use any attachments with this mower just use it as a lawnmower.
The hills and banks aren't steep enough to need weights or fluid in the tires and the tractor handles the hill well, no spinning or slipping. This tractor has never been out of 4-wheel drive and we always use the "L" (low) range setting. I've been wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Now I'm afraid to use these mowers on the steeper banks and I don't know what I'm going to do. :(
