TC26 vs 29

To Tractordale:

I did the same thing you did last year. I was shopping for the dx 24. Ended up buying the dx33 case (Same as Tc33 but red). I could not have been happier. I had a 60" Mid mount installed on the tractor because I had some narrow spots to get through also. I also needed a wooded chipper went with a bearcat. I also added the front end loader. I take it off every time I mow very easy to do so once I got the hang of it. I also got the r4's. I would recommend that you get the TC29. Your dealer should make you a really good deal since they are being replaced with the Tc31. The only problem I have had with mine has been the hydraulic lines in front of radiator. The dealer took care of it quickly and installed a kit that fixed the problem. When chipping you will not be unhappy with more power. In these size tractors it is wise to buy maybe a little more then you need. Getting to small can be a costly mistake. Also I had the chute removed on the mowing deck and the dealer made a chute out of flexible rubber (works great). I am able to go through 60'' openings. I also looked at Kubota I am very happy I went with the Case-new holland tractor. You get a lot for you money.

Tractordale,
The gate with 60" of clearance may be an issue if you have any type of mower to get in there. The loader would not be an issue, normally, because you can raise the bucket up over the posts. Loaded bucket may be another issue too.
The TC26 has specs very close to the old TC24. I think all they did is basically tweak the motor some.
In CT a backhoe may be a necessity because of the stone /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

TractorDale, I am also waiting on a TC26. I did a lot of research for the purchase, and finally decided the smaller tractor was better for me. I think the few hundred pounds lighter will be an advantage for mowing the grass. Size and storage was also a factor.

The TC29, as I understand it, is no longer being made. If you do go to the bigger frame machine, it might make sense to go to the TC34, which is the most powerful machine in that size. One very big advantage to the 31/34 machines is they have 3 ranges rather than 2. Though it didn't ever seem to be a big deal to me, from what I've read, people who go from the 2 range to the 3 range are very happy they did. There is a substantial increase in power from the 26 class to the 34 class, but there is also a 50% increase (roughly) in engine displacement. I wonder if anyone out there knows the difference in fuel consumption for the 26 vs. 29,...,34 machines? Anyway, with fuel at $3 a gallon, the smaller machine seemed to make more sense to me. But then again, the fuel use difference might not be much.

Looking at the 26, it seems to me it has plenty of ground clearance for a CUT, which is the biggest reason I wanted CUT rather than a SCUT.

I am a CT refugee in NY state, and if you think you have rocks there, you should see what it's like here in the Catskills. There are so many rocks in the soil (or such a tiny smattering of soil in the rock) that it's hard to believe that anything can grow in it, but what is there, is very fertile. You could walk around for an hour trying to drive a pick into the ground without clunking on a rock.

Anyway, I chose the 26, mainly for the lighter size and weight. I have about 40 acres total, but most of it is woods and will never see the tractor. I cut about 7 acres, and that's the job I'm hoping will go much faster with this tractor instead of the 24 year old wheelhorse I'm using now, and a 60" deck instead of a 42". Hoping it's big enough to move the snow too.

Good luck!
