TC29D overheating air restriction?

I'd change the thermostat, there cheap. replacing the head gasket or a cracked cyl head is not cheap
PS - very dirty/clogged air filters will cause: 1 loss of power & 2 excessive rich exhaust smoke or fumes.
as for air cleaner restriction gauges, they are good if you know how to read one.
