TC29D PTO Problem

   / TC29D PTO Problem #21
I've got a TC-30 with a 6" chipper and occasionally stall it out when trying to chip a large branch (ie 5 - 6" dia). My brother services New Hollands and told me that I'm at the lower limit in tractor size for that size chipper. Not a big deal if you occasionally stall it, but (in my brothers words) you don't want to make a habit of it. Now I just cut them up into lengths of a 8 to 12 inches or so and don't have any problems.

I've been cutting down quite a few red and white oaks along with some poplar. That's primarily what I've been chipping and shredding. And your right, when it comes to chipping the oak, about a 4" dia. short length (12") is all the tractor can take without stalling. Since I'm using a wood stove, I figure I'll burn the 5" pieces of oak. So it's a limitation I can live with /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I can't imagine wasting such fine wood in a chipper, when it could be good firewood! I generally cut stuff down to 2-3" for firewood.
