I have a 2003 TC29D with 915 hours that I bought it new in April 2004 . The hydraulic cylinder that controls the tilt steering quit working after about 5 years. I replaced that overpriced part ($100) only to have it break again a couple of years later. I swore that I would never spend that much money on that part again, so I jammed a stick under the steering wheel and drove it like a NASCAR champ. Well, the stick broke and now I'm thinking I would like to fix it. Does anyone know of a cheaper fix that actually allows the tilt function to work?

The plastic cap at the top where the cyl rod comes out can be pried up. I put marine grease under the cap years ago and lube the valve yearly. Mine is a 1999 model and still has the original one.

Take a look at a Polaris steering shock (part #7053423) as advertised on Amazon. After replacing the steering shock on my TC 33D once (was enough) and seeing this very similar shock on a Polaris, I wondered if they matched. Let us know what you find out, you may have to carry the old one into a Polaris store. Good luck.
