I'm currently looking at the TC29D and TC33D tractors. The specs are nearly identical except for some additional HP on the TC33D. Oddly enough the top speed is less on the TC33D. The pump outputs are the same. My questions are:

* Is the extra HP worth the extra $800-$1000?
* Why would you need the supersteer option and is it worth the extra money?
* How much more is the supersteer option?

Thank You,

Hello again,

The top speed is a typo - the Boomer catalog has the correct speed on the hydro-transmission page.

That depends if you need it. I live in very hilly terrain, so I am almost always going up or down a hill. My tires are filled, my MMM weighs about 500lbs, my FEL weighs over 800lbs and it is usually filled with something, so going up hill with over 2 tons tractor. Four extra HP is worth it to me. If I lived on a flat piece of land, the 29 would have been enough and I would have spent the money on an implement.

Don't know...I test drove both, and thought the standard steering worked pretty good. The SS linkages looked like more maintenance would be needed. I do tear up the lawn with my R4s if I make very sharp turns...SS may not, but I'm not sure.

I've think it is about $1000-$1200.

I agree with Big Dave. Funny how us Daves agree /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif . I, of course, would say that the extra hp is definitely worth it /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif but then that's my opinion /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. You need to take a serious look at your uses and if the 29 is at all questionable then go for the 33. It's been said here before, very few if any have wished they'd gotten a smaller tractor but many wished for bigger.

Back in the winter of 2001 when I bought my TC33D there was only $600 difference between the two. This was the same at both dealerships I was dealing with.

For those of you with supersteer... Does anyone have R4 tires? If so do they tear your lawn up? I was told they may tear it up because of the supersteers tighter turning radius.

I got the SS equipped TC29D for the same price as a non SS. I told the dealer that I didn't care if it had SS or not and that I could buy the Case DX29? for the same price as the TC29D without SS. All he had in stock at the time was one with SS, and since he wanted the sale, he gave me the SS at no cost!
I love it, I would have paid $2000 extra if I knew any better at the time. I works extremely well if you are mowing around a lot of trees. It takes a little getting used to with the FEL attached, the front will initially move in the opposite direction when you turn the wheels.

As far as ripping up the lawn with R4's, go slow and you won't have many problems.

Neophyte,

TC29D w/Super Steer here. I love my Super Steer for mowing. If you don't plan on doing any mowing with a mid mower then don't get it. There is some instances where it is nice with the loader but not many.

As far as the difference in HP. I have the 29 with a 72" MMM and it works great until I hit a steep hill then I just have to slow down some. Overall I am glad I didn't spent the extra for the 33. The grand difference will allow me to buy attachments.

I also have the R4's and have trouble with turning sharp and reckoning the lawn as long as you go into the turn slow. If you hit it fast you will tear it up some.

Here's my two cents on super steer. It is easier on turf than braking a tight turn. Lets you get away with R4s if you have to mow grass as well as more conventional farm chores. Another feature that comes with super steer is sensi trac (SP?). Basically auto 4wheel drive. the front wheels aren't enagaged unless there's 2.5% differential in the front to rear wheel speed. So you only get 4wd when you need it. Saves wear and tear on the front end as well as fuel. At least that's what my dealer says. I'm still making up my mind on a TC45D so we'll see.
