TC30 2x-4wd

On my 2000 TC30 the manual says to shift the lever forward to engage the front wheel drive. My experience has been that it engages into 4wd by pulling the lever back. Anybody have an idea of what's going on? What am I missing?

Do you have decals beside the lever that show the driveline connected/disconnected? If so, go with those. Printed manuals have lots of mistakes.
