TC33D / Finish Mower - 6\' or 7\'

Buying a new TC33D. Should I stay with a 6' finish mower, or go to a 7' finish mower? I have around 10 acres to mow, so if the TC33D has the power to run the 7' finish mower I would prefer to get it. Let me know if anyone has any opinions or history with this. Thanks.

Re: TC33D / Finish Mower - 6\' or 7\'

I run a 5' MMM on my TC18. It runs out of power in high range going up hills, other than that it is OK. I'd think you could run a 7' OK with the 33. The 7' has 4 spindles= smaller blade size. In theory it should not be that much harder to spin 4 21" blades than 3 24" blades.

If your 10 acres is very hilly, or you mow infrequently, I'd consider the 6' mower, or stepping up to a TC40DA/TC45DA. The TC40DA isn't that much more $$$ - I think its a ~$2,500 upper. Do they make an 8' RFM?

I have a DX33 and I am using a 6'. If the lawn is maintained at a decent level the 7' would probably work fine. I have more than enough power on the 6' in almost every situation. I know a guy that has a 4100 deere and he uses a 6'. As long as the grass doesn't get away from him he gets along fine. I jst like to have plenty of power!

I would stay with the 6 footer. 7 foot is pushing it if grass is thick or heavy or high.

My six foot belly mower on occaisions gets a big pressured if the grass is wet or a bit tall.. or both.

Do you run that 6" at 540 PTO speed? My old 1720, which had less HP than your 33 never had problems unless the grass was extremely, extremely thick and about a foot or more tall. If your running it at 540, and still see problems, you may want to raise it up an inch or so.

Maybe I should of mentioned mine is a rear discharge mulcher. My brother in-law with a side discharge works well. Could be that Ohio grass is just tougher /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
