Hi folks. I sent my TC33D to the dealer for the spring maintenance, and now my throttle lever will not hold in one place. I push the throttle up, and it works its way right back down to idle. Does anyone know how to prevent this? Its driving me crazy !!

See the recent post from rod2dmax (last post on 4/1/06). Your setup should look pretty much like his. I have TC25D and had the same problem. It's an easy fix.

The hardest part about fixing this problem is getting the cowling off. I'm not sure on a Class II, but on a Class III it takes removing the two bolts under the steering column and two on the firewall under the hood (6 bolts if you have to remove both sides). Once you have the cover off, it's a simple matter of tightening the tension nut at the base of the throttle lever.

Surely, someone with experience on a Class II will respond with the specific info. Until then, you can wedge a piece of foam or rubber in behind your lever to hold it in place.

As kpk said, there was a recent thread about this same topic. I know, because I replied in it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, don't just tighten the nut, add some some thread lock, then tighten so the problem is permanently solved.

I know on a 7610s, you can scrunch your hand up, and if you are lucky, can get to the tension nut without removing the cowl.... I did anyway! Tight fit though.. i think i remember scraping some excess skinn of fmy knuckles on the way out.. but was worth not having to take all that sheet metal off..

I think I'd be looking for someone with small hands, Chris. When I found them I'd say something like, "Can I ask you a big favor?..." /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have very big hands too, and they stay scraped up when I'm doing any kind of wrench turnin'. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The 33D is attached the same way, two bolts holding the halves together, two bolts each at the firewall.

If I remember correctly, the right side takes a little wiggle to get off, and I had to tie-wrap a couple of the wire bundles together to get everything back in line.

Thanks for the help guys. It took me about 10 minutes to fix the throttle tension. The problem is it took another 30 minutes to clean the hidden dirt from under the steering column. Wow, was I suprised !!

Thanks again !!

Actually thought at one point that the shock on my tilt-steering wheel had gone out some months back. That is until I saw the ugly mess that had accumulated under my column as well. Once the mess was cleaned up and everything was re-lubed the tilt once again worked like new. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The first time I took the cowling off, I was also surprised to see all the dirt. I made the mistake of using water to rinse most of it off and suddenly my glowplugs started running constantly (well...the light was on, don't know for sure if it was actually heating). I had to pull and dry relay contacts under the left cowling, and blow the moisture out of the relay socket assembly with compressed air. There wasn't much water in it, but that's all it took. I learned my lesson. The next time I had the cowling off, I just blew the dust out and quit. No more problems. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
