TC33D won\'t start

Dear TBNers
Just got my 33D a little over a week ago and have put 12 hours on it so far. It has done everything that I have asked it to do without a problem until this evening. My son was hauling some big sandstones fron the creek up to my house to use for landscaping. He stopped the tractor and when he went to restart, it was dead. Battery was OK as the hazard lights worked. I checked the main fuse and it was OK. The dealer had shown me the pigtails under the frame that controlled the seat interlock and they were OK. I finally checked the fuse panel and the 10amp fuse for the starter relay had blown. I am wondering if this is a one time problem or has anyone else encountered it.

Re: TC33D won\'t start

Mine did the same thing last week..........Wife was mowing.....stopped to fix supper............went back out and no start........I did the same as you........checked main fuse and stupid me I called the dealer and they sent a tech out(MY house is 4 miles from the dealer)........He replaced the same fuse you discribed and said fuses are not covered under warranty...........Result: service call and 1/2 hour labor= $79.50.............I'm PI$$ed ! My TC33 has 19 hours........ Needless to say I should have checked further but a new tractor should START !!!!!!!!!!! P.S. I haven't paid them yet.....I may talk to my salesman and see if they would ever like to see me again ??? ..............Tom

Re: TC33D won\'t start

Guys,

Some goods news, that happened to me too last year just after I bought my TC33D. It happened a couple of times during the first 10-15 hours, but it hasn't happened in the past 60 hours. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif One of our clever TBNers figured out the if the battery voltage is low, an over-current condition can occur and that fuse will blow. I figured that I only blew a fuse when the tractor was new because of two reasons: First the battery needed some charging cycles before it was ready for business. Second, I started to remember to check my toggle switches in the off position before I started her up. The lights will put a load on the battery. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I still carry some fuses in my toolbox...just in case. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Glad that I did a little searching before I called my dealer. $80 seems a little steep for something as minor as a 10 amp fuse. Dealer should have told you about that possibility before he sent a tech.

BigDave

Sounds like a good idea to carry a few fuses in the toolbox. Luckily, I was in my driveway when my tractor gave up the ghosr. I would hate to have been a little farther from home. Hopefully, this will be the last episode. Thanks for the info

Re: TC33D won\'t start

Tom:

Food for thought......My dealer just replaced my battery as a warranty item. Said they had a service notice indicating that the low voltage/cranking amps were causing blown fuses. I agree $80 is steep. Might want to call him back and tell him you want the new battery as a warranty item too....might make him reconsider the $80 charge on the other.

Re: TC33D won\'t start

When I took delivery of my TC29D a few weeks ago my dealer informed me of this fuse problem. He said they were advising a different kind of fuse as a replacement (please don't ask me what kind). I imagine this came out in a service bulletin from NH. I'd ask the dealer to check into this and see what you should replace it with.

I think it was a circuit breaker so it could be reset instead of replaced. Plus I think it was of a slightly higher amperage.

Re: TC33D won\'t start

I think BigDave had the right answer. If you have the lights on and you use the glowplugs prior to starting this will probably blow that fuse. I found that out the hard way myself.
