Andy, I can't think of any "problem" specific to the TC45. The early TC45s could not be equiped with a mid-PTO. Perhaps that is why many people chose the 40 over the 45. There were such a large number of people who wanted to run big belly mowers that NH finally made the 45s mid-PTO compatible with the introduction of the TC45DA. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jinman; My 02 tc 45 d has a plate which looks like a mid pto could be added. Might be pretty expensive piece by piece. The parts book ( if I am remembering correctly ) shows alot of differences between part numbers on the 40 vs 45 engines. I don't think it is as easy as turning up the pump to get the additional power and maintain the working life of the unit.

I know this thread is a little old but I thought I would share my experiences with shimmed hydraulic PR valves for any one contemplating the change. I bought my first tractor two months ago and chose a TC35DA with a 250TL loader mainly because there is a New Holland dealer close to me and he had a used one in his lot at the right price. The tractor had only 350 hours and was in great shape. Due to rain, I wasn't able to use the tractor for two days but on the third day I put it to work moving some topsoil. After five hours of running the machine I took lunch. When I started the tractor after lunch I watched in horror as a river of hydraulic fluid poured out onto the ground from the bell housing of the transmission. Even though there was no warranty on the tractor my New Holland dealer agreed to pick up the tractor and fix the problem.

One of the previous owners improperly installed a shim kit and had the hydraulic pressure almost 2x the rated level. This pressure blew out the main seal of the transmission's pump. The tractor had to be split and the pump rebuilt. Had it not been for an awesome dealership who fixed the tractor at no extra cost to me, I'd be making payments on a very expensive lawn ornament. Now I have to wonder what other components were compromised by the high pressure. Would it be nice to have more lift? Yeah of course! Is it worth it to shim the PR valve? Not a chance!

Just out of sheer curiosity... What type of financing did you get when purchasing used? I am currently debating between purchasing new/used either a NH or a New LS xr4040 as I am aware, nh is rebadging the LS machine and selling it themselves. Very new and uneducated still. Any help appreciated. Used financing seems tough to come by a good rate, pushing me to buy new.

One never knows how a company justifies and comes up with some of the specs. On their different models.
Last year on this forum I asked a question about the difference between the Boomer 40 and Boomer 50 because the specs. We're the same and I was told the only difference was that the injectors were tuned differently! Oh, and the decals on the units were different!

I appreciate that. I would love a NH 40H tractor, but when I discovered that LS is who actually produces that machine, it just seemed like the smart business decision to cut NH out of the picture and deal with LS directly. I'm just looking to weigh those pros/cons. Everyone talks about the availability of parts and service... that scares me. Are folks really having that many problems with their relatively new compact tractors that they are so dependent on service/parts? Or are these guys scared of changing their own oil, etc?

do any of you have anything good/bad to say about the LS brand? etc.

I think changing oil and working on machinery at home is a generational thing. Many young folks today have grown up where most everything is replaced when broken rather than fixed. What is scary to me is all the computer driven parts of some tractors that are impossible to work on without a specific code reader, electronics manual and good knowledge of electronics. The old adage that you can fix just about anything on a tractor with baling wire no longer is true.
I have always have Ford/ New Holland tractors and have two NH dealerships withinn 20 miles of my location. I like the LS but the only dealership near me is 80 miles away, very small, and I would have to drive through Houston, Texas to get there. The Houston metropolitan area is now over 8 million folks and I will do most anything not to drive in the crazy traffic there. During auto wrecks on the Freeways you can sometimes sit for hours until they are cleared.

The dealerships are readily available here to me in Southeast, MI and Mid-Michigan. I just wanted to pick some brains on the LS brand, craftsmanship and quality. I actually posted here on accident I believe. I am new to this form and tractors. This form is awesome though and so are the people. There is a lot of really great information. This form in itself acts a service center. I think the best information is going to come from people who has used the LS products and got their hands dirty with them, as opposed to the guy that is going to tell me whatever it takes to put food on his table and make a sale. For me, like most others I am sure. A 25k purchase is a major life purchase and although I want to save money and feel like I got a deal, I want to make an educated decision.

My rate was 6.24%. A good bit higher than I wanted but its the best I could get. I have a good credit score but not much credit history. Your rate will probably vary a good bit depending on your financial situation. As for New Hollands being rebadged LS machines, I cannot comment. I've looked at LS and a lot of things seem different between the two brands but I was probably comparing machines of different ages and designs. As Utopia mentioned having a GOOD dealer close should be a very important factor in what you buy.
