First, this website is incredible. Thanks to all of you in all the forums. While I have owned a MF 231S for 5 years, I still knew nothing about compacts and this website can take you from no-knowledge to saturation in very short time.

What about eating crow? After quietly lurching on this site and sifting through literally thousands of posts, I finally posted in the MF forum a loooong diatribe of my conclusions. In short, I felt that the MF 1440V was the most tractor for the dollar in the higher horsepower compacts. And like the 231S, it may have fewer cool gizmos, but it simply made up with it by having lots of guts and being far less expensive. (one example I cited was the 3000 lb lift at the hitch….very strong and would handle my bigger tractors toys much easier) The only real compromise I was making was the fantastic loader specs of the NH class III tractors. And even though getting a FEL was my main reason for purchasing another tractor, I just couldn’t warrant paying many thousands more $ for it.

I was to pick up the whole MF package today. (another hd 6’ bush hog, 6’ hd box blade, trailer, etc) I pass right by a NH dealer on my way to purchase the new trailer. I stop in and explain what I am doing and that I was just curious how much I would have had to pay for a TC35A/16LA.

I’ll be danged, he quoted within $1500.00 of the MF setup. That really surprised me. Then he added the RHINO bush hog and got that whole package with $800.00!

Now I am picking up the TC35A on Thursday. 800 more lbs of FEL muscle and better vision to boot! Even the headlights are cool.

So, can I join the Blue club guys? I would be honored. Just wish it said Ford on the side. It would look great behind the F350.

It can say anything you want on the side, they sell decals. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I guess you don't need two separate forums for Massey Ferguson after all. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm glad to see that New Holland was willing to make a good buying experience for you and I'm glad that you're a new member on the BLUE TEAM!

Sorry I can't agree with you on your delight with the new headlight arrangement. There are still more than a few of us that liked them just the way that they were. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Congratulations on the new machine. That sure is a strange turn of events. I, too, really like the new style headlights for the Boomers. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I assure you that having 2 forums did NOT have anything to do with my purchase! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And I may have jumped the gun on the headlights. Afterall, I haven't even used them yet. But they sure look perty. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As far as getting an unexpected good deal, the NH dealer explained that it wasn't always like this. There was a time (he called it the hayday) when they got more of a "premium" for their tractors. But he pointed out how many dealers were within a few miles of my home. I hadn't thought about it. They are EVERYWHERE! Good for me, I guess.

Cool deal. You don't know how many times I've been a day away from getting 'x' tractor.. and see 'y' and end up getting it.. etc.

I think there is a lot of trash talk about how much MORE it costs to buy any of the Big 3 machines. I know pricing is regional, very regional, but I[m beginning to wonder if the HIGH price of any brand versus any other brand is simply bag negotiating skills? I have not seen any significant price advantage from the "minor" brands, when a true apples-to-apples comparison is made. There is often some price advantage, but not always as much as people might think. "cowboydoc" over in the JD forum posts on this topic pretty regularily with JD equipment, he shoots out prices for JD tractors that turn Kioti and Mahindra green with envy. And in my own shopping, I bargain hard, but have not seen a significant differnce. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Now about the cool looking headlights ? ? ?

I agree Bob,

It also has to do with the luck the dealer has had for the month. When I bought my cut I got one of the major 3 at prices that were less than some of the others in this area. Look, bargan and be ready to say yes when the proper price is struck.

The ability to see a good deal is also part of the deal. When it is a good deal, and it works, I feel that is when to buy, not to take another bite at the apple and see how low you can get it.

Just my 0.02.

Congrats on the new tractor. I can barely stand not having mine yet, since I have so much work waiting for me. I hope to close the sale of my old home in a few weeks and them I am ready to jump.

I kinda came to a similar conclusion about those models, and since I spoke with a dealer about the MF 1440 yesterday and the TC35 is a model I am looking at very closely, I wish you would tell us what prices you were able to get on these two models, with and/or without the loaders. I am real curious if you would be willing share that info.
