TC35D FWD Will NOT Disengage

No, haven't tried that one yet. I will tho.

That's all well and good as long as the loader is on the tractor. There are a lot of times that I'm using that tracor w/o the loader. Such as plowing, discing, even brush cutting where 4WD is needed.

As Sarah Palin would say, "You betcha there are times with the loader off that you need to use 4wd." At those times, the driveline windup should not be so tight and it should be easier to get it relieved. If it were a gear tractor with a clutch, you could always pop the clutch and do a quick shift out of 4wd with the front tires in the air. If you do that, be sure and post a picture.:laughing:

Yeah, it's a pain to disengage, but driving forward slowly while rotating the front wheels left and right should do the trick with the loader off.:thumbsup:

My TC40D (I'm assuming the same gear box and 4x4 as the 35D) is always a bear to get in and out of 4WD. I've bent that linkage numerous times. I've tried several ways to get it out of 4WD but only by putting it in high/high and moving smartly backward, quickly letting up on the pedal and shifting at the same time will it come out. I assume that this is just the nature of the beast (since someone else is having problems)??

Getting out of 4WD is one thing but getting it engaged when in a precarious situation is another. Sure wish this thing shifted easier. I'll be curious to see what you find.

That idea workswell for me - forward .. [havent tried back]. Try just wide open throttle and static pedal. Back off throttle and shift simultaneously. ...?

I'll try that one today also. Certainly easier than using my high lift jack to raise the front end.:laughing:

When I first bought my TC34DA in 2007, I think it was, I had a similar problem.
I say similar because I am not sure it is, was exactly the same. There is a spring that holds a detent ball in a groove in a shaft. Internal in the transmission. The spring was too stiff. IT is accessible behind a bolt screwed into the side of the transmission. There is a pn for the new spring, Changed the spring , fixed everything. Now I have to go find the info.
I cannot find the thread .
The spring is no 9 on the exploded view and the new spring .pn is in the other picture.
I cannot remember if this was the 4 wheel drive or the rear PTO and it is a different tractor of course. The dealer had no information on the problem but did have the new spring in stock.
Maybe something to look at
I just looked at the TC35 transmission. Did not see any detent springs in the transmission like on the TC34.

When I first got my TC35D I bent the linkage putting into FWD - dealer said to just feather the pedal while shifting to FWD - tried it and have never had problems shifting in or out of FWD since.

Many of us simply touch the forward pedal for a brief second or get the tractor moving forward just a littly bit, then as you lift your foot to stop the motion, shift out of 4WD at the same time. This needs to be done on level ground and make take a time or two, but has always worked for me. This brief period of "coasting" seems to be just the motion the transmission needs to become completely unloaded and let the gears move easily.

Been out pushing dirt the last two days. Had a chance to try the "wiggle the wheel" and "tractor does push ups". Works like a champ. And to think I've been fighting that thing for 9 yrs.
