You guys seem to know your stuff; additional question,,, my PTO lever when new of course had full 100% through from off (back position) to on (forward position) Over the last several years it would only engage around 85% forward,,, and now at about 50% .... also on ocassion lately it got to where at 0% the PTO still turns...

Of course now I'm where I started this thread... pump is out

Did I miss what is wrong with your pump? Is it leaking fluid into the engine or is it making bad noises?

I'm a little confused about what you are saying for the PTO lever. Are you saying it used to engage as soon as you moved the handle, but now you have to move 50% of the slot length to get engagement? That sounds to me like clutch wear, but it could also relate to a bent lever. If your PTO engages and doesn't slip, I would not worry too much. If it slips under heavy load and/or doesn't stop turning when it is disengaged, that could be a problem. Edit: I see you said it turns even when disengaged. That's not good and may indicate a worn clutch/brake assy.

As far as flow, I'm guessing NH would say that the 9.8 gpm flow is at the reduced pressure for the TC35 and at 2500 for the 40/45. I would say flow was more a function of engine rpm than relief pressure, but I don't know if that is correct or not.

That makes sense. 9.8GPM is way big for a 35hp tractor. The engine
does not have the power to pump a that rate and 2500psi. Other
tractors in this power and weight class all seem to run 8.3GPM +/- at
2500psi (JD 3320, Kioti CK35, Kubota L3240). You need more like 40-45
hp or you will bog down at 9.8/2500.

If there is a choice, I would prefer a tractor with higher pressure and
lower max flow, cuz you are more likely to be pressure-limited in loader
or other common implement work. (That does not include hyd mowers
or snow blowers.)
