I don't think the hydro is any stronger in forward than reverse 'cause there is no reverse gear. The hydro motor just spins backwards. Now to your question about the engine bogging. Let's check the following assumptions.

1. Are you running at rated power 2600 rpm? (you should)
2. Are you in low range? is the hydro motor in low too? (you should if you are working it real hard)
3. Is the engine all warmed up? (my engine stumbles unless it is all warmed up)
4. Is the hill so steep that fluids might not be circulating properly (fuel?, hydro oil?)

I would assume that if there was water in the fuel, load or no-load, the engine would bog. In my experience, my HST relief valve will pop (release pressure) if I am working the tractor too hard. The tractor just kind of stops even if I am pushing the hst pedal. This assumes that the tractor is at rated power (2600rpm). Only if I am not at full power (or significantly below it) will my engine stall under load. Let me know.
