Guys,

Picked up my, new to me, TC35DA last night and cannot get the cruise control button to work. It is a toggle button on the right side of the operator. It turns green when I turn it on but the tractor stops when I let off of the hydro pedal. I got to thinking about it last night and recalled that the original owner told me that he disconnected the safety switch on the seat so the tractor would keep running when he got off of it. I am now thinking that that switch is probably tied to the cruise control so it does not operate if you fall off of the tractor. Any help is appreciated.

I also need a new steering wheel. Any ideas on where to get an inexpensive one?

Thanks,
Mike

I had the same problem on my 33D and found out the switch under the operators platform controled by the brake pedal was not aligned properly. When the brake pedal was pushed, it released the switch and disabled the cruise.

Might be a place to start.

Mike, the cruise control is not associated with the seat switch. If your seat switch is not bypassed correctly, the engine will stop or will not start. The cruise is an electromagnet under the right side platform. If you look under there, there is a big "B" shaped plate that rotates when you move the hydro pedals. Behind that plate is a magnet about the size and general shape of a donut. When energized, the electromagnet holds the plate in place when you release the pedal.

I suspect you either have a broken wire or a failed electromagnet. To test cruise, you do not need to have the tractor's engine running. Just turn on the key, press the HST pedal down, and push the cruise switch. You should be able to hear an audible "CLICK" as the magnet attaches itself to the the metal plate.

Some people have had the magnet energize, but fail to hold the pedals in the proper place, but many have had a failed magnet with broken or pinched wires. In you case, that may be the problem.

Thanks guys. I will check it out tonight. I did 3 hours of bush hogging last night and the cruise control sure would have come in handy.

I had this same problem except sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I had to bring it in to the shop and they found a brake in the wire to the magnet that you couldn't see.

Looked over the tractor last night and could not find the magnet. I will give it a more thorough once-over this weekend and see what I can find. I am assuming that it is located under the right side operators platform just under the hydro pedals? I tried the click test with the tractor off and the key in the on position. No click.

You need to remove covers under steering wheel; magnet is located there.
Black 2 piece covers that go from the dash to operator platform.
Go to CNH site, click on parts, type in your tractor model ( tc35da) and look at illustrated diagrams of unit.

When I look at the drawings, under transmission, pedals hst(drawing 3.03), It looks to me like the magnet is down by the HST pedals, holding the pedal cam.

I could be wrong, though. I will look the next time I visit my tractor.

If you do not hear the magnet engaging ( click) when tractor is not running; key "on" and you are pushing hydro pedal half way down. Hold pedal down and engage cruise switch; you shoulddefinately hear the magnet engaging. If no noise; first check fuses; then check with a meter to see if you have voltage at magnet. Then backtrack till you have voltage. Once you remove the cover panels, you will see how the cruise works; pretty much a plate that is connected to hydro pedal that is held in position by a magnet when cruise switch is activated.
