TC40 Hydraulic Leak

   / TC40 Hydraulic Leak #11
Tom my TC-40D leaked from the day that I got it. Jim is correct it turned out to be the test ports that were leaking. I never could put an eye on the leak myself since every time that I looked the whole undercarriage was wet with hydro oil. I waited until I had a few other issues before I let the dealer come get the tractor for repair. My dealer made the fix and pressure washed the tractor to boot. It hasn't leaked a drop since the repair was done months ago.

Good luck to you.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to let the dealer handle it for now, as I have to go out of town all of next week. I'll call tomorrow morning so see if he will come pick it up. My place is 40 miles from the dealer (and 80 miles from where I live). I'll definitely mention the potential causes discussed here.

Also, what about my comments above with the dealer NOT changing the hydro fluid at the 50 hour. Is that common? And, at what point will the lack of hydro fluid (and how much) cause damage to the tractor?

Thanks,

Tom although the filters do get changed at 50 hours the transmission oil doesn't get changed out until your 300 hour service. Check section 3-2 in your operators manual for recommended New Holland service intervals.

PineRidge is right-on with his comments about the hydraulic oil change. Most likely at 300 hours you will still have oil that's crystal clear.

Oil is like air in the tires: they start full and when some leaks out, it's up to you to refill before they get flat. I don't think you'd hurt anything even if you lost two or three gallons. Your reservoir holds almost 10 gallons. If you worked your tractor really hard, you might see the oil temp rise 5-10°. Just check your oil every 8-10 hours and you should be okay. An oil leak of only a pint looks like gallons when it's spread all over the bottom of your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif A couple of quarts low won't hurt anything in my opinion.

Okay, I'll stop worrying so much. PineRidge, I would check that operators manual, but I put it in a "safe place" and have been looking for it now for three weeks! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the comments,

Hey Tom that kinda sounds like one of my tricks. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Don't worry too much, I expect that it will turn up when you least expect to find it.

Wow, I have the exact same symptoms, oil every where on the mid section of the tractor, I just replaced the oil radiator for the second time about 2 weeks ago at ~250 hours, so I know the oil is not from that. The dealer will be picking mine up this week. Glad I'm still under warranty.

Just spoke with the dealer. He said he'll pick it up this week while I'm out of town and get it fixed. I'll let everyone know the diagnosis when I get back.
